  • Did AOL CEO Tim Armstong overreact by firing creative director in front of 1000 employees?

Recently, in the wake of a company shake up and amidst manycutbacks, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong went on the defensive by holding a conference to boost company morale and ensure employees he had their best interest at heart. In the middle of the speech which was recorded- he spies the Creatvive director of PATCH taking pictures for the company newsletter like he always did and suddenly out of nowhere he fires the guy in front of 1000 employees, than resumed speaking. Was this the proper reaction for a CEO to take, and did it do anything to reassure the other employees?

  • AM I wrong for doing this?

A year and a half ago I was laid off work and had to collect unemployment. Since I did not make much money to begin with the unemployment check only came to 236.00 a week. With this I had to pay rent which is exactly 1050. a month. Plus I had other expenses like food, utilities, laundry, etc. So, if you do the math, you will see I was in jeopardy. Well, I took a part time job to supplement my income only to learn that unemployment takes away 25% of the money you earn each day up to 75%. So I quit the job because by working I was spending money for transportation and it was costing me more money than if I was sitting home looking for full time work. I actually had less money by working since the job only paid minimum wage. Well, the unemployment sent a letter to the minimum wage employer asking about my reason for leaving and he told them I voluntarily quit. This caused them to suspend my unemployment until after I had a hearing. By this point my rent was already 5 months past due and I had went through all my savings. I went to social services for help but since I don't have children and my income was over 758.00 a month I didn't qualify for anything except 27.00 in food stamps. They offered me free furniture storage and 225.00 to move , told me to go to women's shelter or find a friend or a relative to live with. I got tired of begging friends, family and the church for help so I just sat back and resigned myself to whatever came my way. I left it in God's hands. Incidentally. a friend told me that if I were to suddenly have a nervous breakdown and become unable to work, I could get all the assistance I needed and would be able to stay in my apartment and draw from disability until I was better. I thought long and hard about this. I slept on it and toyed with the idea for quite some time before deciding that it was morally incorrect. She argued that I seemed quite on the verge of a nervous breakdown to her anyway and that with NO income coming in at all I didn't have much of a choice. At this point I couldn't even afford a room. Last week, I went before the judge, he gave me 30 days to move out. I have nowhere to go. My folks are elderly and live in another state. My only local family are strict Jehovah's witnesses and don't like to interact too closely with non witnesses. My 2 girlfriends both have husbands and kids. I would be imposing plus I wasn't offered to come stay. I have been in my apartment 8 years. I worked so hard for everything I have. The shelters are not nice places at all. I am thinking about going down to the mental health clinic tomorrow and saying I am not feeling too stable. Am I wrong for this?
