  • advice on lunging please?

I usually lunge my horse in a standard headcollar with lunge line attached. She is very good on the lunge but is very strong in canter and i find it hard to hold her when she gets a bit fast. She has even went into gallop on one occasion where I ended up having to let go of the line! I am reluctant to lunge her with her bridle as i have heard that this can result in loss of sensitivity in the mouth. Does anyone have any ideas? thankyou

  • Bit for my new horse???!?

I have a new horse and so far i have been riding her in a bit which i had for my old horse - a dutch bubble gag attached on the 3rd ring. The bit has had alot of wear and the plastic coating has been chewed down to the metal and feels a bit rough in parts (although, not sharp) Im planning to get advice from a trainer as soon as we start taking lessons in the next few weeks as i want to make sure i am using the correct bit for her and me. Do you think it will be safe enough to use this bit for the short term??

  • keeping a quarantined horse calm!!!!!!!!???????

My new horse is in quaranteen for 2 weeks, we had to put a pony in the stable next door and i have left the radio on for her as she was really anxious. Obviously she is getting no turnout at the mo, she sometimes box wallks which is quite distressing to see. She is only being fed hay just now, and she is full of energy as u could imagine, i have tried leading her out for short walks but she takes off like a steam train and is very hard to keep a hold of....i am worried about her being moved out of quarantine as she is just so full of energy! Do you think she will settle down after lots of turnout and a bit of lunging after the 2 weeks? the thought of riding her is quite scary at the mo!!!

    hi,

i have a new 16hh belgian warmblood and im looking for a new rug for her , she lives out thru the summer so i need something to put on her at nights and on days wen its not so warm (we live in scotland so it still gets pretty cold!) shes well built and up to weight so she wont need anything terribly heavy. • which saddle....leather or synthetic?

Im about to purchase a new saddle for my new belgian WB, I am having a master saddler come out and fit it. I am just wondering in your experiences what do u find better for your horse and yourself? i recently rode in a synthetic (wintec) and i cudnt believe how light it was!! this made me think i might be swayed towards synthetic. Id be interested to hear ur thoughts, thanks

  • why does she have chipped hooves and sparse mane?

I have been viewing a new horse to buy, I have the vet coming to do a full 5 stage vetting next week so this will tell us if she has any serious issues. She has very narrow upright feet for her size and when i saw her she had pulled a shoe, i noticed the shoe-less foot was quite badly chipped. Her mane is just growing back after being cut very short after it was badly rubbed, its pretty thin and is still quite bald near the base of her neck. I am just wondering if anyone knows if she may be lacking something in her nutrition? Im not sure what she is fed at the moment. Apart from that her coat is shiny and shes in good condition.

  • Crib biter...to buy or not to buy?!?

    Hi all,

I have been trying out a lovely 13 year old gelding, I really like him....but he crib bites. He does it to the point that when he is let out into the field he goes straight to the fence post. His owner admits that shes never hit it off with him and doesnt have time for him so he gets shoutd at alot & doesnt really have any time spent with him & when shes near he gets very aggressive. I think his habit may be due to stress. He being sold for £2700 (Scotland), would it be highly unadvisable to buy a crib biter? and how much should i expect to pay for a horse that does this?

    thanks
