I recently set up a dual-boot Kubuntu/Windows Vista, and I am having a few difficulties setting up a dial-up internet connection in Kubuntu. I get to the "KPPP Internet Dial-Up Tool," and the first thing it says is:

"/etc/resolv.conf is missing or can not be read.

Ask your system administrator to create this file (can be empty) with appropriate read and write permissions."

I tried to create it, but it won't let me. Aren't I the system admin? Am I doing something wrong?

After clicking okay the that window, it shows me the main window where you can connect. I click configure, set up my account, and I can't seem to set up my modem. I don't know the location of it or the name of it. I have tried all the places under location, but it gives me an error when trying to connect every time.

Could someone please walk me through this process? I need to get on the internet so I can download drivers. If it is not possible to get on the net on Kubuntu for some reason, can you tell me how to get rid of Kubuntu? I don't have the original disc for Vista setup, as the computer came with it pre-installed., and I don't know how to reset the MBR without the disc.

Hello, I'm a 14 year old teenager enrolled in school, and I would like some help or guidance on what I could do to help with my stress and hatred toward my family. First off, My parents are divorced. My mom is a drug addict and a prostitute. She's also an alcoholic and she just tells me what to do all the time, such as cleaning up her messes. I'll literally end up coming home from school, and the house is a mess because my mom and sister ruined it all. I always end up cleaning all of it, just to come home the next day to find it a mess once again. I don't like it.

Second, my sister is a party animal and I believe she has gotten into drugs. She's 18, and she overreacts to a lot of minor stuff. For example, One day I was cleaning up her CDs off the floor and she came over to me, pulled me away, yelled at me and accused me of trying to steal her CDs, and then she went into my room and went through all my stuff to see if I had any of her CDs, which I didn't. I feel like I am not trusted at all. It's kind of similar with my mother, as every time she loses something she goes directly to my room and searches through all my stuff, even if I tell her if I don't have anything of hers. I haven't any privacy.

I believe my family is causing me stress and my grades have gone way down ever since I went into middle school, where there was a lot more homework. I don't have time to do it, because they won't let me have time. I have to clean the house everyday. I told my mom I needed to do my homework and it was more important than cleaning, and she threatened to give my dog (I love him, I grew up with him) away if I didn't get to work. I somehow manage to keep my grade at the C and D range, but I am starting to fail math and history because the assignments are more lengthy than the other classes. If I continue to follow this through high school, I may not be able to get into a good college and take classes that I would qualify for but can't because of grades. I also believe many scholarship offers will not be available to me.

I also can't seem to think clearly and concentrate on the in-class work or in study hall because I'm thinking about how I have to come home to my family which hates me. Also, if it would matter, my mother told my I was an accident child. That really hurt me.

Please, any help would be great, I'm really down lately and I tried talking to some of my teachers about it, but I guess they just thought I was making an excuse for not getting work done. I actually got sent to the office as if I did something horrible when I tried to explain things. The guidance counselor is no help, she just takes people in, pretends to listen, and then you never hear from her again.

I am 14 years old, and I plan to join the Army. I would like to know the requirements, so that I can prepare myself for what is to be in my future.

I have to hard drive partions, with one partion being Windows XP, and the other getting ready for Linux. I am wondering what Linux distribution I should use. The computer I use is for Home use, like homework, web browsing, ect... Any suggestions?

I recently had H1N1 and Strep (at the same time), and was in the hospital because of it. Parts of my lungs a now weak, and I'm on an inhaler. I can't run or breathe in too much because of this. I'd like to strengthen my lungs, so I can eventually re-join basketball for my school (I was forced to quit) and join track later.

I don't have a dad who would support me with this decision and my mom isn't very supportive. She doesn't approve of any army or war whatsoever. When I even bring up the subject of 'soldier' she usually says, "What the hell's wrong with you?!?"

The only upgrade is Memory, which is now 960kb (4 x 256kb). It's supposed to have 2.2 Gigahertz Processor, but it acts more like it has 1 gigahertz. For example, in the Sims 2, I can't handle the slow speeds, even though I only have University, Nightlife, and Open for Business. That combo only requires 1GHz. If I install the next expansion pack, Pets, which only requires 1.2GHz, the game is unbearably slow. Is it my graphics card? Please help.
