  • Coast Guard Reserve Split Training Program?

Can anybody give me some more info on this, please? The Coast Guard site says "this program will allow you join the Coast Guard Reserve without interrupting your busy schedule. Basic and Advanced Training take place over two subsequent summers or as availability permits. Between Basic and Advanced Training Reservists in this program are paid to participate at their assigned unit one weekend per month."

So does this mean I can't be deployed during college? Their info seems pretty vague..

    Thanks

  • Senate Committee on Foreign Relations?

Would they have the jurisdiction to introduce a bill to Congress which would reallocate a certain number of troops in Afghanistan to strictly humanitarian measures (providing food convoy protection, etc), instead of combative?

    Thanks!!

  • Coast Guard College Reserve Program?

I've read all possible info I could online about this program, but all of it is vague. Does this program allow you to attend college and be undeployable? What are the benefits of College Reserve as opposed to simple Reserve?

    Some clarification would be appreciated,

    Thanks!

  • Coast Guard Reserve call-ups during College?

I'm headed to college next year, and thinking of joining the Reserve. But what are the chances I get called up during the college year? And how long would I generally be called up for? Also, would that be a failed semester, or would the college be obligated to give me leave? How does it work?

I know I should talk to a recruiter (appointment is currently pending).

    Thanks!

  • Can you serve strictly in Coast Guard Reserve?

I'm headed to college next year and then law school after that. I want to serve in Coast Guard, but not active duty. Is it possible to only serve in reserve and the occasional active duty? Or must I serve four years in active duty? Thanks.

  • National Guard during college?

I'm thinking of joining the Guard while in college and was wondering if I can just serve part time during the four years, and not actually fight overseas. I want to go to law school after to pursue a career in public service How does this work? I don't really know a lot about it.

    Thanks a lot.

  • What does the brass number mean on NYPD collar?

A cop who detained me for no reason had a number 12 on his collar. I wanted to get his name and precinct so I could report him, and he told me the number on his collar was his precinct number. But in New York, there is no precinct 12, so he lied. Another cop told me it could be his rank, too. What does number 12 mean as a rank?

    Thanks

  • Is filming someone in school illegal?

I was filming my friend today with the camera on my phone in the library at school, when a librarian's aide got in the video. After finishing the one minute video, she told me to delete it - I refused. Does she have the right to tell me to delete something from my own property? Furthermore, isn't it legal for me to film in an open area with no "expectation of privacy?" Also, is the school library considered a "public area," if the definition of "public space" is: "an area or place that is open and accessible to all citizens, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age or socio-economic level."?

  • What does a handicap mean in speed skating?

My grandpa was a famous speed skater. I was just reading some of the old articles published about him in the early 1900s. In some of them, they say he was skating with a handicap of 75 yards, 35 yards, etc. Does a handicap just mean they start ahead of the others, and why did they receive handicaps?

  • What do these dreams mean?

I have a lot of dreams about being in trouble (house robbery, kidnapping, etc) and trying to call 9-1-1. But most of the time, I get a busy signal or the phone doesn't work or nobody picks up. Other times I dream of being in these same situations and having a gun and trying to shoot the kidnappers, bad guys, etc. and the gun doesn't shoot. What do these dreams mean?

  • Can you send blog posts to New York Times?

For the "letter to the editor," can one send his/her blog post to the editor. The instructions say: "Letters to the editor should only be sent to The Times, and not to other publications. We do not publish open letters or third-party letters."

Does that mean blog posts, too?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Fight this traffic citation for stop sign?

I got a traffic citation for "failure to stop for stop sign." I did stop, just not completely. Moreover, the officer's handwriting is incomprehensible. I cannot make out what court he wrote down, nor his name, the time to go to court, nor the address of the occurrence. Is this ticket fightable? And can I use the officer's failure to write out a readable ticket to my advantage? Thanks
