  • I want to be a computer engineer. Am I too far behind in my high school math classes?

I'm currently a Junior in high school. I feel like I have an engineering mind and I've been thinking of pursuing a career in computer engineering. I've always enjoyed designing and building things, and I am interested in computers (I've built my own computer and I found the research engaging and interesting), so I feel like this would be a good fit for me.

That being said, I'm worried such a career will be difficult to pursue because I'm not in advanced math classes. Based on research I've done it's recommended that you have experience with Trig and Calculus during high school. As a Junior in high school, I'm only in Algebra 2, meaning I'll probably take Pre-Calc my Senior year. I'm not incredibly gifted when it comes to math, but I'm not bad at it either.

I guess my question is, how behind am I, and how hard will it be to catch up in order to be successful in a college computer engineering course?

Note: I'm on track to have a years worth of college credit by the time I graduate high school thanks to AP and dual credit classes. Would it be possible to catch up during that year?

    Thanks in advance.
