  • What is the accepted standard for internet connections for businesses? ?

I'm trying to determine the normal options for business internet connections. Obviously T1 is very common, but does it still represent the best option? It seems to me that it's speed limitations would make it obsolete, considering many consumer level services provide significantly faster connections. What are most business doing today? Do some combine multiple T1s? My company has about 25 people working, and I'd like to know what we should be providing.

  • Smokey Mac OS X screen saver?

My friend just bought a new Macbook, and he had some kind of colorful smokey screen saver running on it. I'm trying to figure out what the screen saver is called and if it is available for Windows. The computer was brand new, so I'm guessing it has to be something that ships with OS X. It was basically just some colorful flowing smoke. Anyone have the name of this?

  • Domain name law?

I have a company. I'm not going to mention the name or the domain name in question, so we'll just call it Abcd and abcd.com (The company name and domain are both four letters). The current owner(s) of that domain are not using the domain for anything. They have had a meaningless page up for years and it has not been updated. Are there any laws which would obligate them to hand over the domain or sell it to me since they are basically just sitting on it? I recall when Apple purchased iPhone.com, the previous owner needed to prove his intent to actually use the domain, in order for him to be able to actually negotiate with Apple for such a high price.

  • Can colleges ban students or athletes from using Facebook or other sites?

Do colleges have a legal right to ban their students or athletes from using social networking sites? The University of Minnesota Duluth recently has tried enacting a policy of preventing their athletes from using Facebook.com and similar sites.

For some reason, I feel that there most certainly exists legal precedent that wouldn't allow for such policies, even for athletes. Does this not start to infringe on free speech rights? A college would never be allowed to ban students or athletes from speaking publicly in other fashions, or to the press.

  • Adobe Illustrator Silhouette Help?

I've got a scanned pic that someone drew by hand of two people in silhouette... It's not particularly detailed, and I was wondering if there was an easy way in Illustrator to just sort of select an rough outline of the image in order to create a vector of it?

  • Redirecting a page if it loads in an IFRAME?

I mistakenly posted a link on a site, which is located inside an IFrame on what we'll refer to as Page 1. So when the link is clicked, the new page (Page 2) is loaded into the small area of the Page 1 IFrame. This would be an easy fix, except I do not currently have access to Page 1 anymore.

Is there a way to add a piece of Javascript or anything else to Page 2, which would detect that the page has loaded in an IFrame, and then reload or redirect the page properly?

  • Computer won't start? Motherboard issues?

My computer all-of-a-sudden won't start. It powers up... The motherboard lights up and the fans kick on, but the monitor won't register any signal. Also, the CD drive will not open. The computer is just a few months old and has top of the line parts. Fine one minute, and gone the next. What do these symptoms point to?

  • Help! Strange QuickTime/H.264 playback problem?

I recently bought a new computer with Vista and an 8800 GTX. For some reason, I am unable to playback H.264 (High-Definition) content with QuickTime. When I attempt to, I get a buffer-overrun detected error and QuickTime crashes.

Strangely though, when I uninstall QuickTime, I can playback the same files with QuickTime Alternative, but this only works when QuickTime is uninstalled. This sucks though because QuickTime is tied into everything like iTunes and many webpages.

What could be happening? QuickTime is obviously causing some problem.

  • QuickTime won't work!!!!?

I just bought a brand new computer, and the only trouble I seem to be having is with QuickTime 7. I cannot get it to play any HD movies.... They will open, but when you play them, they quickly start to stutter and then QuickTime crashes. Sometimes the whole damn computer crashes. Sometimes it gives a Buffer Overrun Detected error. What could be up?

The new computer is running Vista and the video card is a NVidia 8800gtx?? Is this a Vista issue? Driver issue? I think I have the latest versions of drivers/software. What could be up?

The irony is that my brand new super fast computer can't do something my three-year-old computer can handle easily.

  • What game(s) do you recommend?

I just finished playing Half-Life 2, and I thought it was amazing. I'm obviously a few years behind on my PC games, but what games do you recommend for someone who loved Half-Life 2?

Also, I was amazed by the graphics in the game. Is it still considered to be one of the best looking games out there? Are there other games with such amazing graphics?

  • What's better than betta fish?

Are there any options other than betta fish for smaller tanks without filtration or heating? I've heard that paradise fish are a better choice, as they are hardier than bettas and can take lower temperatures. Is this true? Are there any other choices?

  • Dogs - Protective of their tails?

I've noticed with my two dogs that they are both rather protective of their tails. They do not like their tails to be touched. If you touch it, they will try and tuck it between their legs and move so you can't touch it. Is this common among dogs? Cats normally seem to use their tails to interact with people... Sort of taunting you with them for attention... It also seems like cats have more conscious control over their tales then dogs do. Have other people noticed this and is it true?

  • Common elements of dreams?

I'm writing a story about someone dreaming and so I am looking for a variety of common elements found in people's dreams. Do people dream in color, b&w or a mix? Are images normally clear or blurry?

When I dream, I normally am not aware immediately that I'm dreaming, despite bizarre things normally happening. Is that how it is for most people? Are there some strange things that are common in dreams (ie. Ability to fly)?

Are people able to read text such as signs or digital clocks in dreams? When you are dreaming, what's an easy way to tell that it is a dream and not reality?

What would you say is the biggest difference between reality and dreaming... Just the overall feeling?

  • Computer Cases???

I'm looking to build a computer, and I'm having a really hard time finding stylish looking cases. I have a few questions. I love the Powermac G5 case. You can buy the case by itself on EBay - Is there any chance that it is compatible with ATX motherboards?

If not, does anyone know of ATX cases that are similar looking to the G5 cases or just stylish ones in general?
