4 AnswersCooking & Recipes7 years agoHelp! My daughter is a Runaway @ 14?
I live in BC. About a month ago my 14 yo daughter ran away. Nothing is that bad at home, but she did have a lot of teen angst and we definitely nagged her a lot to get her to do her homework and her VERY minimal chores.(10 mins a day, 20 mins once a week).
Her grandmother waits on her hand and foot, and has poisoned my child against me by telling her that she can go live with her any time she likes. So now the kid has been gone a month, doesn't want to speak to me, went from getting A's and B's to failing her courses, skips school, missed doctors apts which I had to pay big fees for the missed apts. she ran away after I dropped her off at school, and the school youth worker called her grandmother and not me, and asked her to come and pick up the child from school. This is not how things work as I am told by ppl quite high up in school district. Protocol is to call the PARENTS if the child is threatening to run away. Or call the RCMP if the child is in danger. Neither of these things were done, and this is the ONLY reason that she could run away to begin with. The police won't bring her home as they say she's with family so she's not in danger, it's a social services issue. Does anyone know if there are laws about child interferance? Or contributing to delinquency of a minor? And my messages to the youth worker at the school have never been returned. Light needs to be shed on this, as my daughter was basically spirited away from her home, and I feel like this was all some sort of elaborate plan. Any suggestions or advice is welcome.
British Columbia parents: do u know your child's school can help your children run away from home without so much as a phone call to you? That is exactly what happend and I think every parent deserves to know that you cannot trust your child's school, regardless of their 'protocols'
Thanks for taking the time to read all this. :(

5 AnswersEthnic Cuisine10 years agoFish Cakes? what are these things called? where to find them?
Ok, I have been looking for fish cakes to put in my Duk bok Ki, and I cant find them! I know they come in bags, but are they frozen? in the coolers? or the dehydrated ailse? fish section? Ive asked at my local asian mart and they look at me like I have sprouted 2 heads! Can you please tell me what it is actually called, so I can go in and request it if they dont carry it, and so I can hopefully explain to them what I am looking for. I mean the fish cake that is pressed pollock, its thin, and in the shape of a rectangle.

2 AnswersEthnic Cuisine10 years agoNice Ryokans in Japan near the ocean?
I am planning a trip to Japan. The point of the trip is to experience traditional Japan during most of the trip, and to experience 'new' Japan for a portion of the trip. I feel the best way to experience this would be to stay at a few Ryokans. I have no idea which ones would be best suited for us. I am taking my teenage daughter with me, and she would love to spend a day or two in Tokyo. I would like to stay in a ryokan that is near the ocean. ( since Tokyo looks very close to the water on my map, that should not be too hard to do.) I would also like to stay at one ryokan that is away from the cities, and would be more quiet and serene. This is mainly a vacation to rest, recover, regenerate. I will tell you the things that are important to me to experience, and if you can recommend a particular Ryokan, ( or 2 or 3) that would be awesome! Also, if you can recommend some touristy- things to do..... even better!!
ok... here goes....
I would like to stay at 2 or 3 different ryokans during our stay
I would like it if one of them was close to Tokyo, so we can not have to travel too far in the first day or so of our trip.
I would like at least one ryokan to be near the ocean.
I would prefer if the ryokan was traditional in nature, and not so much modern.
I would like the prices to be reasonable- I plan to stay at at least one ryokan that is in a higher price range as a treat, but would also like to stay at a couple that are not going to break the bank.
I would like at least one of the ryokans to offer Japanese gardens, waterfalls, scenery, etc to foster peace and calm the mind.
I would like most ( but maybe not all of them have to be) of the ryokans to be near at least some shops and restaurants, in case we get tired of seafood and want to go say to a soba shop, or sushi-ya, etc.
I would like to tour a soba shop, a sake making shop, and maybe enjoy learning a green tea ceremony, or sushi making class. Any ideas like this are welcome.
also, I would like at least one or 2 of the ryokans to have onsen available.
I dont mind if one of the Ryokans are in the mountains or forest areas? as I would also like to visit a temple or shrine, and might enjoy being away from the city, but Not too high of elevation!! Also, I would like to keep it less than 2 hours or so away, so I dont have to spend all day in a bus or train.
thank you in advance for any ideas or suggestions you have. I have done ALOT of looking online on youtube, japanese websites etc and ryokan lists- but there are 50 thousand ryokans in the country and it is hard to know where to start!!!
Mainly, I want to feel welcome, safe, and relaxed, and dont really want to go where foreigners are not welcome.
any further suggestions you may have are also welcome!!
:D
ps- I would also like to stay at some hotels between the ryokans, ones that are good and clean, but not too pricey. Like best western or something like that?
2 AnswersJapan10 years agoin BC Canada, can your landlord deduct $ from your DD to purchase indoor heaters for lower tenants?
our LL are absolute SLUM DIGGERS who are telling us since it is cold in the basement, that they will buy the tenant downstairs space heaters and deduct it from our DD. ( the lower tenant is the LL's SISTER whos a crack whore, incidentally)
Where exactly does it state this is legal? I can not find anywhere that it does- as we DID NOT SING ANY LEASE OR RENTAL AGREEMENT.
Looks like this one goes to arbitration, folks! woohooo! But seriously, does anyone know the law or where it can be found? other than the RTO??? as I am lookin gthere already.
Thanks a bunch!
