  • What to do about rising ammonia and pH levels in fish tank?

I have a 10gal tank with 6 small goldfish I bought last Monday (each about an inch long) with an Aquaclear filter and an air pump running all the time. 2 died, one this past Wednesday and one this past Saturday, drifting feebly before inevitably floating to the top. I went to the pet store numerous times to get the water tested and buy solutions offered to me by the staff-- ammonia removers for the filter, pH regulators, pH reducers, whatnot. I did a minor water change over the weekend.

Yesterday I tested the water I was using for a 50% water change and the pH was a 7 and ammonia was 0. After I added in the necessary conditioner and the like, I performed the change and tested the tank water several hours after. Ammonia looked to be about 0 and the pH 7ish.

Everything seemed fine until i noticed today one of the goldfish drifting and beginning to float. i tested the water and the pH was a little higher maybe 7.2ish and the ammonia was ridiculously high like 3-4. I immediately added the pH regular and the Nite-out II (ammonia remover) and am hoping for the best at this point.. Honestly im at my wits' end, it genuinely bothers me that my fish are slowly dying off one by one and it seems like no matter what treatments i buy, it's futile.

I've had fish before that lived for 10 years before succumbing to old age and I haven't changed a thing in how I take care of my fish. I never had a pH or ammonia problem before. I only feed my fish once a day and only as much as they can eat in a minute.. Someone please help me.

  • Philosophy question!?

I have to write about 6 pages about one of the examples below as a philosophical issue.

    - an IRS director, in determining which religious organizations should be exempted from tax, is forced to define what counts as a religion or religious group

    - a mother, concerned about the spread of AIDS, begins to rethink her views on sex education

    - a hospital administrator, faced with an overcrowded trauma center, is forced between turning away patients or "going into the red"

    - Supreme Court justices, when attempting to distinguish obscene and nonobscene art forms, are drawn into questions about the nature and function of art

    Any insights, thoughts?

  • Why won't a minidisc (MD) record anymore?

I dug out my old MD player and installed SonicStage. The transferring of the songs from PC to MD seems to go fine but after I've disconnected the MD player and then try to play the MD, the MD player says the MD is blank. Any idea why the MD won't record anymore?

  • Inexpensive Laptops w/ Built-in Webcam + Mic?

My aunt's looking for a small laptop, preferably one under 5lbs, with a built-in webcam and microphone for chat purposes. She likes the MacBook but has never used Mac before and finds the MacBook a bit pricey.

What other laptops do you suggest? She wants at least a 40gb, preferably 60gb, hard drive. In terms of price, something $1000 or less.

  • Inexpensive-Moderately priced Korean restaurants in Flushing, surrounding vicinity?

I'm planning to go with a large group, 10-20 people. The Korean restaurants I've gone to are rather on the expensive side, and don't seem well-suited for large groups.

Any suggestions? I'm willing to travel into Bayside, Little Neck/Douglaston if need be.

  • How do you know for sure if a contact's still in your eye?

At first I thought I never put it in right in the first place and it probably fell off my finger or fell out of my eye. But now my friend's gotten me all worried and paranoid about it still being in my eye.

I've tried flushing it out with lots of solution, and rubbing around the eye to see if it's stuck in a corner somewhere. I've also tried that method where you look down and look back up while two fingers are pressed near the bone but none of them have helped. All I've succeeded in doing is making my eye sore.
