Do modern computers still need modem to use the Internet?
When the Internet was first invented, it did use modem to modulate the sending computer's digital signal to analogue to be transmitted over the telephone copper cables and then when that analogue signal reaches the receiving computer, the modem at the receiving computer demodulated the analogue signal back to digital so that the receiving computer can read it (hence the term modem, from MOdulation-DEModulation). Is this modulation-demodulation still needed or even used in today's technologically advanced transmission media environment?
8 AnswersEngineering2 years agoDoes Nokia 7.1 allow a person to combine an SD card into its 64 GB built-in main storage ?
O.K. I know 64 GB main storage is a lot. But just in case that runs out, can a 128 GB SD card be added to it for a total of 192 GB as a single main storage? I am not talking as a separate storage area - I know that can be done with all smartphones.
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans2 years agoHow does an astronaut change direction in a space walk? This deals with Newton's third law of motion.?
According to Newton’s third law of motion (to every action there is an equal but opposite reaction), we can explain the movement of ships (including propeller planes) and jets/rockets where there is something to push against. But in space, there is no atmosphere for the jets to push against. So, if an astronaut is moving forward at say, 50 m s-1, and then wants to stop, he/she will release a jet of gas in the forward direction to create an opposing force (F = ma) to give an negative acceleration and so stops the astronaut. How exactly does this work since there is no matter/atmosphere for the jet of gas to push against?
6 AnswersPhysics5 years agoHard drive with OS recognized via USB but not recognized when placed in the laptop and connected to the regular SATA connection?
I created a system image of Win 10 from a Toshiba 320 GB HDD (on an external hard drive)and tried to restore it to a WD 500 GB HDD. I removed the Toshiba and installed the WD. Using a USB System Restore flash drive to start up, I can find the system image but can't find the WD500 to restore to. I then removed the WD500 and connected it in an external USB hard drive case. I was able to install the system image and run the computer from this restored image. Then I removed WD HDD from external drive case and installed it back into the computer. The BIOS still does not recognize the WD hard drive. Any idea how to fix this, if it can be fixed at all?

2 AnswersComputer Networking8 years agoSince gay is an alternative lifestyle, why not look for an alternative to marriage?
First off, I am totally opposed to gay marriage. Being gay is termed "an alternative lifestyle", then gays should also have an alternative to marriage. I don't have a name for it but it will carry all the privileges and legal rights of a heterosexual marriage! Would that satisfy the gay community? And if not, why not?
12 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender8 years agoHow is blood pressure related to heart rate?
My blood pressure is 156/98 and my heart rate at the time the pressure was taken is 57. This is about what they are before I exercise. I do exercise regularly, drink 80 ozs of water per day (since I weigh 156 lb), I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian. Ten minutes after exercising, the blood pressure drops to about 127/78 at 100 bbm heart rate (during my 30-min exercise, I do push the heart rate to a max of about 170). Is there a problem here with the before-exercise blood pressure and how is blood pressure related to heart rate?
2 AnswersHeart Diseases8 years agoIf you have product key of Win 7 on sticker on computer with crashed HD, what version was installed?
I was asked to fix a laptop that had Win 7 installed. The hard drive crashed. The product key is on a sticker on the computer. Computer owner is not too computer savvy so she does not know it it was Professional or Ultimate, or 32 bit or 64 bit. Is there any way I can find out this from the product key? I have a disc with all versions of Win 7 and can easily install the correct one, if only I knew which one was installed with that product key.
3 AnswersSoftware8 years agoHow do I access eMac (with Mac OS X) startup menu?
I was given an old eMac (with Mac OS X) installed but the password and user name do not work. So, that's where I'm stymied. I would like to access the startup menu so that I can reinstall Mac OS X or Edubuntu (if that is possible on this machine) from a USB flash drive. I know that for some other computers, you can press F11 or F8 or Esc, to access the startup menu. I've tried all of those without success: I still arrive at the username and password login screen. How do I access the startup menu? (I know nothing about Apple computers or products, even my phone is Windows 7 ! )
