I am a Junior physics student at Harvey Mudd College. I'm most comfortable with physics, but I can still answer other science-y questions.

  • What is the name of the cartoon where a boy dreams he's a dog?

There was an old (Warner Bros.?) cartoon that I remember where a boy dreams he's a dog. I remember a lot of little details, but very little of the overall story. I know it ends with the boy (as a dog) getting shaving cream on his face and everyone calling him a "mad dog". The boy wakes up and apologizes to his dog for mistreating him. His dog turns to the audience and says, "Well that's okay-- I'm just a boy dreaming he's a dog too!" I know it's a strange question, but someone out there knows the cartoon I'm talking about.

Thanks, and please tell me any other details you might know.

  • What is a good movie for someone who is in mourning?

My girlfriend recently lost her father to a sudden heart attack. For the time being, she's still in shock, so she's trying to take her mind off of things by watching some of her favorite kids films. We watched "Cats Don't Dance", "The Swan Princess", "The Rescuers Down Under", and "Oliver and Company." What's most important, however, is that the films don't deal with the loss of a parent (so we're not ready for films like "The Lion King" and "Lilo and Stitch"). Even "The Rescuers Down Under" was a little tough for her because the child had lost his father and the eagle mother had lost her husband.

So what are some of your most beloved kids' films that you're absolutely sure don't deal with any tragedies so that she can keep her mind off of things until she's ready to confront her loss properly? Thank you all so much.

  • Ladies: is a relationship without sex good, bad, or awful?

I'm not in a relationship right now, but it's been on my mind lately. The bottom line is that I'll have sex when I'm ready, but I don't know if that would have an impact on any relationship I get into. So what's your opinion? My guess is that it could be catastrophic if I have to refuse to take the relationship to that level physically. On the other hand, men and women seem to view sex differently, and I wonder if it might take pressure off the relationship and build a deeper level of trust. Thanks in advance!

  • Good first date: pizza place or Italian restaurant?

I'm thinking of asking a girl out to lunch, but where to? I had a nice Italian restaurant in mind but then I had second thoughts since it might be a bit too... romantic (I don't want to put on too much pressure). Then I started thinking about a pizza place that I've been to a couple times. It's not a hole in the wall-- it's about as upscale as pizza can reasonably be. Of course, that might be less desirable because it's not special at all and I might be perceived as being cheap or something.

So which should I pick? Classy or casual?

  • Topics for a quantum physics paper?

Hey, don't worry, it's months down the line. I've been assigned a paper on ANYTHING within the realm of quantum physics. The only catches are that it has to be roughly ten pages of material and it has to be readable by my peers (sophomore physics students).

It could be theoretical or practical, but I'm also free to do a biographical or historical paper. I know a little quantum already and I've read Feynman's autobiographies, but that's pretty much it at this point. Students in the past have written papers on things like quantum computers or even gone as deep as string theory (not advised).

If you're not morally content to help, that's cool. I'm just hoping to bounce around some ideas before it's too late. Just think big!

  • Does Chris Webber have the best hands ever in basketball? Any comparable players in sticky hands?

Generally, the ability to grab any rebound or pass, as long as he gets a fingertip on it. Ignore all other stats, including scoring.
