  • Is the "Asics run with Ryan" ad still there at Columbus Circle station after NYC marathon?

    Your Question

Is the "Asics run with Ryan" ad still there at Columbus Circle station after NYC marathon?

I want to see it, but I wonder if it's still there (as of Nov 19) at NYC Columbus Circle, or they removed it after NYC marathon. Does anyone know it?

  • Mariano Rivera: How can the Statistics website tell if the pitch is cutter or fastball if both are 92mph?

Except for the batter and catcher, it's quite difficult for us to tell the difference between fastball and cutter if the speed of the pitch is almost same (which is the case of M Rivera of Yankees MLB). Fangraphs.com shows that Mariano Rivera's pitch consists of 87% of cutter, 13% fastball, and speed of both are 92mph. I am not an expert, so I asked some baseball fans, but they told me that it's quite difficult to tell the pitch by watching TV. They told me it's even more difficult to tell the difference if you watch at the stadium. Then how could you tell??

  • Is there a list of the MLB catcher's ability to prevent runner stealing a base (in percentage)?

I heard that there is such a list, but I can't find it by Google. Does anyone know? For example, i want to know how good Joe Mauer's ability to prevent runner stealing a base is compared to other catcher.

  • Why did Pilgrim Fathers try to go to Hudson River, NOT Cape Cod, in the first place?

Question for someone who knows US history:

Pilgrim Fathers first tried to go to Hudson River, but ended up in Cape Cod (much North) because of navigational problem. Why didn't they try to go to Cape Cod, in the first place??

#1. British patent didn't cover Mass., but who cares? Their purpose is to get out of the sphere of British governance anyway.

#2. Cape Cod is much colder, but it means the less contagious disease. Many Virginia settlers died from tropical disease. As there are unlimited amount of woods to burn, cold winter shouldn't be such a problem.

If I were them, I would go to Cape Cod from the beginning. Why didn't they?

  • Why so many poor people on welfare can afford to have a dog?

My Chinese friend went to the a spay/neter mobile clinic to neuter her dog in New York City. A driver told them that it's $25/each, but anyone who has the governemnt-issued Benefits Card (Welfare card) get a free surgery.

To his surprise, all people (about 15) except him showed a card, and only he paid $25.

What I don't understand is that, if you are on welfare, you are so weak/sick/disabled/poor that you are aksing other "villege members" to pay their food. Why can they afford to have an "extra mouth"? It just doesn't make sense to me, or am I a "far-right" to think like this?

  • Why so many young healthy people have Benefit card at supermarket?

I just moved in Washington Heights area in Manhatten because rent is cheap. It's a hispanic neighborhood. At a local supermarket (Finefare), I noticed almost everyone is using "Benefit" card to buy groceries. I thought this type of welfare card is only issued to old and disabled people, but many people are young (20-50) and they don't look so poor (everyone has sidekick like cell phone). It's disturbing to see that I am the only one who pay from my own wallet, after working all day.

I checked the website of Social Security Office, but it says I have to be old or very sick or disable to get it.

Does anyone know how so many people get Benefit cards? (These "benefit cards" looks like white credit card, and it has photo on it.)

  • Why does DVD's Bonus unused footages have so POOR quality? (Visual technical question)?

It's a technical visual question. I'm talking about film movie, not a digitally shot movie. Compared to the real movie, the "deleted" scenes in DVD's Bonus features look so ugly. Poor resolution, and poor color. What kind of process do you need to make it look like a real movie? Is it so difficult?

Some entire movie (such as Requiem for a Dream (2000)) look poor too.

  • If the motion in universe is relative, when you turn yourself 360 degree, stars move faster than light speed?

I learned that universe space has no axis, and any motion is relative.

I still do not understand this. Suppose you turn your body by 360 degree in one second. A distant star (say, 1million light years from earth) travel about 6 millions light years by circling around you in one second. This is way way faster light speed (about 400 millions times faster than light speed). Yet nothing can be faster than light speed. Why does this contradiction happen?

  • Is it possible to put solar panel on the moon and transfer energy to earth by microwave? (=Space based power)?

In the book "The Next 100 Years" by George Friedman, he claims that by 2080 all energy problem would be solved by the space based power generation. But I thought that even if you can transfer energy in air by electromagnetic beam, originally shown by Nicola Tesla, evergy losses very quickly with square of distance. or am I missing something? Is it really possible? G Friedman is a RAND corp analysist, so I think he is serious.
