I am from India, that too the southern India called Kerala.

In this place we have lots of Hindus, Christians and Muslims.

We all mingle with each other, attend religious functions of

others. We also attend Hindu weddings conducted in special

marriage halls, Christian weddings in Churches and Muslim

weddings. I have seen hundreds and thousands of people are

invited for marriages. Kilograms of gold ornaments and gifts like cars

are given away to the bridegroom and his family. The quantity and

amount of money depends on the social status of the families involved.

For ladies here, attending a marriage is a dream so that they can wear

their new sarees (the five meter long costly cloth worn over the female body)

and ornaments. For children it is fun and for family members it is an

occasion to enjoy. Households save money for this special occasion.

On an average 800 to 1000 and sometimes up to 2000-3000 people

attend the wedding and the reception. The number of the people invited and

attend the wedding depends on the status, economically and socially, of the

families involved.

How is it in different countries other than India. I just want to hear from others.

Friends from other parts of India can tell how it is done in their places.
