Never had a political bone in my body. Never cared about the issues or world around me. Took a college course in Documentaries with Dr. James Sudalnik - "It rocked my world and turned it upside down". Started watching "West Wing" and T.V. Series '24' after seeing "Why we Fight, 2005 Documentary" and "The Fog of War, documentary 2003" about Vietnam and Robert McNamara U.S. Defense Secretary. Connected the Dots, saw Hillary Clinton speak and saw that she "gets it". I have hope and confidence for the future in her campaign to intelligently address issues. That is "As good as it gets" for me, there are no "Silver Bullets" in life or this world.

  • Why does MS WORD 2003 require you to change the TOOLS/OPTIONS/SAVE setting each time you use it?

It amazes me that SAVING a document within a minute would not be the factory DEFAULT [no one wants to lose typed information) and it seems I have to check/change this setting EVERY TIME I USE word..did they FIX this in later editions of WORD?

  • In CA. elections, if NO ONE voted [hypothetical] for the listed judges, would they stay in power as a 'default?

I had to ask a guy leaving because I felt stupid voting all these years and not having ANY idea what I was Voting FOR with little or NO information on these folks listed as judges at different levels. Obviously they are required to be 'voted in' by CA Constitution [vs. 'appointed' like the Supreme Court Judges] and yet how do u 'vote' on an un-informed basis and what impact does that have in leaving that supposed 'vote' in place as a status quo endevor......

  • In CA. elections, if info on judges is not given in voter pamphlet or at voting booth - how do you vote?

It is one of those 'questions that are right in front of you' that you never seem to ask yourself [or blame yourself for not researching each judge on the ballot individually?] Shouldn't there be SOME kind of information [other than their NAMES and status/title] be provided in order for the public to make some sort of RATIONALE CHOICE?]

    Frontline: Poisoned Waters

    (2009) NR

Turning a critical eye toward the growing problem of water pollution, this sobering installment of "Frontline" examines the conditions that lead to water contamination and the danger it poses to human health. The program exposes the worsening conditions of Puget Sound on the West Coast and Chesapeake Bay's elimination of the fishing industry over the last 25 years on the East Coast, pointing to the threat of continued runoff from development, agriculture and industry and the impact on the fishing industry in the United States.

    Estuary

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    (Redirected from Estuaries)

For other uses, see Estuary (disambiguation).

    Estuary of Klamath River

An estuary is a partly enclosed coastal body of water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea.[1]

Estuaries form a transition zone between river environments and ocean environments and are subject to both marine influences, such as tides, waves, and the influx of saline water; and riverine influences, such as flows of fresh water and sediment. The inflow of both seawater and freshwater provide high levels of nutrients in both the water column and sediment, making estuaries among the most productive natural habitats in the world [2]

Most modern-day estuaries were formed during the Holocene epoch by the flooding of river-eroded or glacially-scoured valleys when sea level began to rise about 10,000-12,000 years ago.[3] Estuaries are typically classified by their geomorphological features or by water circulation patterns and can be referred to by many different names, such as bays, harbors, lagoons, inlets, or sounds, although sometimes these water bodies do not necessarily meet the above criteria of an estuary and may be fully saline.

Estuaries are amongst the most heavily populated areas throughout the world, with about 60% of the world’s population living along estuaries and the coast. As a result, estuaries are suffering degradation by many factors, including sedimentation from soil erosion from deforestation; overgrazing and other poor farming practices; overfishing; drainage and filling of wetlands; eutrophication due to excessive nutrients from sewage and animal wastes; pollutants including heavy metals, PCBs, radionuclides and hydrocarbons from sewage inputs; and diking or damming for flood control or water diversion.[3]

  • Do Oil rigs have 'black boxes' like downed aircraft to ascertain potential causes of disruptions [sabotage]?

With the recent Louisianna Gulf Coast explosion, I wonder if employees are satellite linked to on-person microphones [during work hours] and survellieance equipment above/below rigs to ensure some form of security and post mortum to ascertain the events of a failure, fire, explosion or political/environmental sabotage that would survive the massive high temperatures of an oil rig explosion?

  • What net revenue does each 1 cent increase in gasoline prices at the pump produce for oil companies?

I have noticed gas prices instantly increased 8 cents per gallon since the Louisianna coast oil spill debacle of recent [still ongoing]. The gas/oil companies all are uniformly raising gas prices at the pump [as a possible passing on the cost-of-loss to the public customer]. When taxes are raised 1 cent in California it brings in Billions. When Gas prices at the pump go up 8 cents per gallon nation-wide it would seem that would net gas companies tens or hundreds of billions, whether they bear the cost of the BP cleanup or not. Why do we accept that because there is a national story, we, the People bear the brunt of expense at the pump for this disruption to one of the many oil/Gas companies?

  • What percentage of jobs in the U.S. are military related?

According to Finley in 'Ancient Cities' - 'pax Romana' added an advantage to the Roman empire as a result of captured enemies use to support Roman troops via free labor [slavery] for manufacturing and support services for Roman troops, thus ensuring economic growth [much like the Hebrews slavery in Egypt [by biblical accounts] offered the Pharoah's the ability to build great cities, monuments and tombs for themselves]. I was wondering to what proportion that tradition had passed to U.S. economic stability and the 50% + representation of all budget items being related to current military expenditures.

  • How much does the U.S. currently pay in interest [per year] to service our debt?

    ECONOMY

    Who America Owes

The U. S. government owes $2.67 trillion to foreign governments and investors—20% of our total GDP.

And that number has grown rapidly.

“In 2001, China held $61.5 billion in U.S. debt. Now it has $541 billion,” says James Ludes of the bipartisan American Security Project in Washington, D.C.

“In 2001, we owed Russia less than $10 billion. Now it’s $74.4 billion.”

The debt is sold to other countries in the form of U.S. Treasury securities.

“We also have to pay interest on those securities,” adds federal budget expert Doug Elmendorf. In coming years, a big chunk of our country’s wealth will leave our economy and go overseas to pay back the loans.

Will this outflow of cash affect our standing in the world?

The U.S. emerged as a major global power after World War I, and the U.K. declined in part because we owned so much British debt.

Ironically, today the U.K. is our third largest creditor.

  • Would VirtualLab Data Recovery 5.5.17 be able to recover my files after re-installing Windows Vista?

    VirtualLab Data Recovery 5.5.17

How can I restore my Windows Vista System after a failed SP2 upgrade?

The system stopped @ 48% complete and did not resume after 8 hrs. It said not to power down the computer, but obviously i had no choice once the upgrade failed. This destroyed the config.sys file and the instructions were to run a repair/restore with the system disk. This did not work [of course] and I cannot get to another copy of the config.sys file with native DOS [Vista does not give this option]. I need to copy and old config.sys [pre-sp2 upgrade] to where the system is looking for it now [the system disk restore to an earlier date did not work either] and I'm afraid I do not have a 'ghost image' or backup copy of system files outside of the ones on the hard drive. Any thoughts/suggestions?
