Emuse, Mind expansion... Truly serendipity!

  • Given Y = 1/X^2 and a really big graph...?

    If I could plot this on a graph where x and y extend to infinity, what would the curve look like, if we could look at the entirety?

  • Why should the universe have a beginning?

    I am much more comfortable with the concept of infinite time/space. I believe this discovery has been corrupted solely to preserve the concept of the "Big Bang".

    http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/physics/lau...

    refer to the "shape" of the expansion, why shouldn't it be a simple cone and a parabolic function.

    If it were of course then the "Big Bang" would be an illusion.

  • Why do most physics forums prefer not to entertain arguments?

    I think argument is the crux of real science!

    Can anyone direct me to a forum that welcomes argument?

  • If the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate...?

    (which is a parabolic function), wouldn't the "Big Bang" be an illusion?

  • Is the universe infinite?

    When did time begin?

    If you looked south in the sky and saw super nova (a) at the edge of the observable universe, then you looked north and saw super nova (b) at the edge of the observable universe... would super nova (a) exist for an observer on super nova (b)

  • I am looking for an Einstein quote...?

    It goes something like "If your theory seems correct by all means pursue it, but gird yourself to oppose it if it proves false." Can anyone direct me to the correct quote?

  • I need to gain some quick knowledge on the basics of field interaction anybody know of some good sources?

    The fields I want to work with are new to physics (my own theories) so I need information on general field interaction... The only thing I might add is that at this point I believe the field is toroidal.

  • I have a theory, and I need some help.?

    Sometime in 1983 I began thought experiments on an atomic model that did not require the strong and weak nuclear forces...

    That journey has led me to a great number of discoveries:

    1. Gravity is a manifestation of a universe that is constantly expanding at an accelerating rate, that is the universe and everything within the universe.

    2. The neutron does not exist.

    3. The "Big Bang" is an illusion.

    4. Matter is our perception of the interaction of expanding fields.

    5. Those fields are toroidal in nature.

    I find at this time that I need to share my discoveries with someone who has a good understanding of field interaction, is anyone interested?

  • Trouble with php/mysql script?

    This is the script:

    <?php

    $mysqli = new mysqli("hidden", "hidden", "hidden", "hidden");

    /* check connection */

    if (mysqli_connect_errno()) {

    echo"Connect failed: %s\n", mysqli_connect_error();

    exit();

    }

    $User = $_REQUEST['UserName'];

    $query = "SELECT type, desc FROM uwl_items WHERE holder = $User";

    echo $query;

    $result = $mysqli->query($query);

    echo $result;

    while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result, MYSQLI_NUM))

    {

    echo "<a></a>";

    }

    ?>

    The "hidden" values are correct, there are 2 rows in the table. you can see the results @

    It seems as if the query is returning an empty set... can anyone spot the problem?

  • Collison detection... vector3...?

    I need to detect the collision point between spheres... given their velocity vectors (3D) I need to determine when they will be at separated by a distance equal to their combined radii.

    Given vectors A, B:

    Find Cartesian coordinates where A - B = X.

    ?

  • I am developing a modeler for my atomic theory?

    For each particle I calculate the influence of all other particles (n-body problem), I then have a value for velocity in vector 3. When I animate the model I simply add the calculated velocity to each particle, so time is 1 unit per iteration... my problem does not lie here, I need to detect collisions. At first it seemed quite simple... it was already necessary to find the proximity of the particles, if it was less than radius of particle a + particle b... a collision had occurred! This did have some gaps however, if a particle had completely passed "through" another, the collision would not be detected.

    My problem is this... Given a set of vectors for a pair of particles, I need to determine if and "when" (a fraction of a time unit) a collision occurs so that I can "roll back" my animation to the point at which collision occurred... The math escapes me, can anyone help?

  • Need some help on orbit math...?

    I am writing a program to model atoms... Each of my "particles" has mass, radius, position, velocity and charge values... We can ignore the charge properties for now, I am only working with neutrons at present. I want to give the user the option to calculate the orbital velocity on an axis based upon the properties of the current particle being created and the previous particle created.

  • My transparent... isn't transparent!?

    I have created a custom control "particle" that inherits PictureBox, I am adding the control to a panel ("space"). particle BackColor is set to transparent particle image is a png. when I run it the backcolor inherits the panel backcolor. When I add several particle controls to the panel and they overlap, the particle backcolor is the same as the panel back color and covers the particle image behind it. I have tested this by changing the panel backcolor. What's up?

  • My control properties don't exist?

    I have created a custom control particle which inherits PictureBox, I have added several properties...

    When I insert the custom control in my form the properties are present, however when I create the control at runtime the properties are not present, Example "The name 'VelocityX' does not exist in the current context" Can anyone see where I am going wrong?

  • I am having trouble with resources in C#?

    I want to change the background image of a picturebox at runtime, I have added the file to my project and have also linked to the original...

    Particles[n] = new Orb

    {

    Top = 10 * n,

    Left = 10 * n,

    Width = 10,

    Height = 10,

    BackColor = Color.Transparent,

    BackgroundImage = new Bitmap("Proton.png"),

    Visible = true

    };

    The error is "parameter not valid" any help will be greatly appreciated!
