  • Why must a captain always go down with his ship?

My third grade daughter is into the Titanic and reading all about it. She is reading about when it sank, and in the book the captain says that a captain must always go down with his ship, and she would like to know why.

  • What are the father's rights now? Will another state hold another's court ruling???

I am moving out of state to be with family. There are no jobs in my area and the economy (much like everywhere else) sucks. I thought at least with family around, that could cuts costs of living and the day care bill. However, the problem that I have is that my daughter's birth father lives in the state that we are moving to. We are moving from Michigan to Missouri. He gave up his rights legally to her, and my now husband has adopted her. The adoption took place almost 6 years ago.

What I am wondering is if Missouri will uphold the adoption even though it happened in a Michigan court??

  • Tell me about Carthage, MO or Joplin, MO area?

I am moving to Carthage, MO in the beginning of June. My sister lives there now, and has told me this stuff. But I would like to hear from other people there or that know of the town. I am wondering how hard it is to find a job. I would like to know what there is to do for fun for a couple as well as a family? What are the hospitals and schools like? Are there any strange laws there? Tell me everything you think I should know. The good, bad, and ugly??

  • Are my father in law and uncle in law considered veterans?

They are two different people, just identical twins. Both are deceased. Both served during the Korea Conflict (War). They were in for about 6 years each. My uncle was given a headstone by the Navy when he passed away (even though he had been out for years). My father in law was creamated, and never buried. When my mother in law passes she wants to be buried with my f-i-l and passed into the plot next to his twin brother. The family is looking at getting him a military headstone, but want to make sure we are asking for something he deserves.

  • How do I find out information from the Navy?

My father in law and uncle in law were twins born in the 1930's. They both went and joined the Navy. We have a picture of them with a huge group of young men with the words San Diego, California under it. My husband would like to get any information that the Navy can give about the group (platoon?) they were in, where they went in the world, why they left the Navy, rank, etc.

How does one go about getting the information from the navy?

  • DJ vs. Do it yourself for the reception?

We are trying to cut some money due to unexpected expenses in life. They needed to go buy a new car when their was totaled in a car crash while the car was parked. The groom wanted a band, but after getting the costs he changed his mind ($1800). The bride wants a family friend to DJ for the event. She wants to go rent the lights and sound equipement and have it done that way ($400). I suggested a dj (about $600), but they are thinking that is too much. What do you think?

  • Telling her what I think of her? Should I or just let it be?

My mother just turned 54 last week. 3 days before that I turned 28. I haven't spoken to my mother in a couple months because I can't stand the sight of her. I can't tolerate what she did to my siblings and I growing up. She abused and neglected us for years. My oldest sister was molested by my father. My other sister and I were sexually abused by a family friend (a couple years later). I thought I put it away and was able to let go of it all, but my daughter who is going to be 8 spends time with my mother and her boyfriend (but hasn't been there in a couple months). I stopped letting my daughter go over there after a couple of mysterious bruises (mother said she slipped in the tub, but that never happens at home). Anyway, the other day out the blue my daughter started talking. She was telling my husband and his family all about my mother and what she does while my daughter is there. It seems that 20 years later and not one thing has changed with her (except the sexual abuse).

  • Wedding/Bridal shower help...... please Is this a cheesy idea?

I have the decorations (which include fake rose petals, heart candles, heart candy dishes, heart balloons, etc.). It seemed this was the time to year to find stuff like that kinda cheap. I will also be having several dozen roses there for decoration. I am thinking the whole theme could be flowers and hearts, but I wanna know what other people think. I wanted to go with something similar to the wedding, which is being done in polka dots and hearts.

Do you think this is okay???

  • Very plus sized bridesmaid dresses?

My sister in law is having a very large wedding party (excuse the pun). There are 7 girls, and 3 of them are overly plus sized. They wear between a 26 and 30 when it comes to dresses. We are looking for a nice dress in the color apple red, but preferably NOT david's bridal. The wedding is in the middle of July, so nothing with long sleeves.

Please include the link for the dress if you can, or at least enough information on how to look it up online.

  • Morbid dreams/nightmares, please interp for me.?

I have had several dreams over the past week, and I am almost scared to go to sleep at night because of them.

Dream 1) I drowned in a swimming pool full of urine.

Dream 2) My mother stabbed me in the chest with a butterknife and yanked my heart out and laughed about it.

    Dream 3) I remember I died, but I can't remember how.

Dream 4) I killed my mother with a butcher knife that she used to have when we were kids. (I haven't seen the knife in almost 15 years.) I sliced her head off and then was holding the head by the hair and she was still screaming.

Please help me figure this out.

I brought the petals that I really wanted, and I thought they were scented. It turns out, their not, and the place won't take them back because it was a sale item. I was told that I could buy something to make them scented, but I have no clue.

Could you please tell me what I need to buy and how long it will take>? Also how to do it would be great. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

  • Landlord/Tenant help please?

My friend just called me in a panic. They moved into a house on December 9, 2007. They signed a month to month lease. They paid rent on Jan. 9, 2008. They just returned home and found a note attached to their door from a lawyer's office that said the house is going to be going up for auction due to foreclourse. What are their rights? What should they do now??

  • How do I buy a house? Serious replies only please.?

I have kinda low income (20,000 a year) and a dual family income. My husband and I would like to buy a house. We also have bed credit, but can't understand paying $500 a month on rent when we could be putting the money into a house that we can own. Any suggestions or help you can offer would be great.

  • Help with this crazy wedding please???

My sister in law is getting married in a few months. At first it was a huge wedding with 7 people on both sides standing up, and about 250 coming to the wedding. I was going to be the matron of honor and my husband was going to be best man due to the groom's choice. My daughter was going to be the flower girl. Last night she called me (after the day before calling me and telling me the wedding was off) and told me that her hubby to be wants a small private wedding and only family at it (they have almost 10 kids between them). Since we are family, she wants still wants us to stand up for them. It will be only us, and our daughter and a ring bearer. And then she tells me that I should still throw her a large bridal shower. The problem was that I was going to ask the bridesmaids to help me pay for it. Because I can't on my own.

Should I still have to throw her a shower? My husband is at the point where he doesn't even want to be in it, or attend it.
