My female friend and I bought a Maltese puppy around 2 years ago. It took a while to convince her not to scold the dog, yell at the dog, forget the choke chains etc. She is a little over 2 years, beautiful, and a perfect house guest. She is not really a guest, she resides with us, full time and is a beloved member of our family. She is a guard dog by nature, always sounds the alarm if emminent intrusion is near. She has worked her way into the bed for her nightly rest. We started in a cage.

She does not get bothered with loud commands or sit or stay. She is so full of love a little kiss prompt brings her to jump in my arms and start kissing and licking. We play and she is my lifelong companion.

This dog was raised and trained on love, I've never raised my voice with her ever, and she is so perfect with everything she does. If I want her to walk with me, I say in a soft voice, Come On. If she wants to get out too far in front of me on a walk, I call her by name, she looks back and slows or stops. She is incredibly agile, a real athlete, and brilliant.
