  • Will a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB model humbucker fit in a Jackson JS20 Dinky?

I'm looking to swap out the stock 'bucker in my Jackson, and after doing some research, I've settled on the SH-4. Can I swap out the OE humbucker for the Duncan, or will it not fit? I've heard some guitar manufacturers (i.e. B.C. Rich) are really fussy when it comes to aftermarket parts, so I want to make sure before shelling out the cash on a new pickup.

  • Why can't I control the volume on my amp anymore?

I have a Peavey Rage 158 amp and recently I have been unable to play through it at low volumes. On the Lead channel, the Pre-Gain knob still controls the level of distortion, but even with the Post-Gain knob all the way down the amp is still really loud, and it only gets louder when you turn it up. What's the deal?

  • How would I go about building a super-simple, non-tube electric guitar amplifier, and will this even work?

I have a couple of old speakers lying around, and I was wondering if it would be possible to use them as an amplifier. No tubes, no tone controls, probably just a volume control; basically some speakers in a box. Can this be done, and where could I find some basic guidelines/instructions? I don't plan on using it for gigging or anything, I more or less just want to experiment, so it really doesn't have to be anything fancy.

  • What is the best way to place your hand when soloing?

I've been teaching myself guitar for a few years, and I just realized that I might have developed a major bad habit. When fretting notes (especially during solos), should I be using just the very tip of my fingers, i.e. with my fingers at 90 degrees to the fretboard, or should they be at less of an angle and fretting with more of the pad part of my fingertip. I really hope that makes sense to someone other than me.

  • Why is my guitar making this noise?

I have a Jackson JS20 with a tremolo bridge, and it's strung with a set of GHS 10s. When I play certain notes, on all six strings, at seemingly random points on the neck (but especially in the upper range), this weird, resonating sound comes out of the bridge. It sounds kind of like a high-pitched, echoey vibration, and it stops if I rest my picking hand on the bridge as I pick. Any ideas?

  • Can egg cartons really be used as soundproofing?

I live in a house with an upstairs neighbour, but I am a musician, and there is a small room which I use to practice. I heard that if I covered the ceiling with those cardboard egg cartons (the side that holds the eggs) it would act as soundproofing. I find this hard to believe. Anyone know if it's true?

  • What happened to the band Everclear?

I know that Craig and Greg left the band, but Art had put together a new band, still called Everclear, and an album was supposed to be coming out this year. Anyone know?
