  • Does anyone know if hinnies are mute?

My parents have acquired two female hinnies about a year ago. They are very skittish, so it's hard to get close to them, but my mom has never heard them make a noise. I'm having difficulties finding information about them on line, and was wondering if anyone knows if they are mute or not.

  • What to pack for a month-long trip to China in December-January?

Looking for packing and traveling trips from someone who has been to China, preferably for an extended stay.

My husband and I will be traveling to Qingdao, China in mid-December, staying until mid-January. We will be staying in a hospital for medical treatments. None of the normal American hotel amenities/toiletries will be provided. Wash service is available for 3-5RMB per article of clothing. How much clothing/toiletries/etc would you bring?

Also, there is a kitchen available for our use, with minimum cooking utensils, but no dining or flatware. There are, of course, locals markets for such things as meat and vegetables, and also a American import food store nearby (although, I don't know how expensive it might be). What would you bring as far as dining/flatware/foodstuffs?

  • Trying to remember a vampire series I read in high school, any help?

I read this when I was in about 8th or 9th grade (so around 1999-2001). I doubt it was brand-new when I read it. It was a "darker" type vampire story (more "interview with a vampire" than "twilight") It did have a element of romance, and I think there might have been a child involved. I remember thinking that it wasn't especially appropriate for someone my age, but I did read at an advanced level, so I used the highschool library when I was in middle school, so it might have been as early as 7th grade. There were quite a few books in the series. I think the main character was female.

  • Cause/treatment for excessive sweating?

My husband sweats a LOT on his hands, feet and lower back. It makes his hands and feet always clammy, which is not a huge problem, but it does make him have foot fungus problems, and he gets lots of pimple-type spots where his back sweats, which is really the worst problem. Could this be some kind of hormonal balance or something, and what could fix this? He's tried foot powders, but that doesn't prevent the problem, just helps with the wetness some. Help!

  • I'm having problems with the sound on my computer - can anyone help?

I just got a "new" monitor, (Samsung Syncmaster 171T, manufactured March 2003) and it has built-in speakers. Problem is, my computer is not recognizing them. Windows media player gives me this error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

I know my computer has a sound card, and I know that the sound otherwise works, so obviously its a problem with the computer recognizing that monitor has the built in speakers. How do I fix this??

  • What is meant by "protein expression" when dealing with viruses?

Specifically, I had a question on a test where I was asked to compare and contrast the protein expression strategies of three virus groups (picornaviridae, togaviridae, and coronaviridae). I realized (after getting my test back and not doing so hot) it wasn't that i didn't know the difference between the viruses, (it was an open-book/notes test) but that I really didn't understand what the prof wanted - what she meant by "protein expression strategies". I realize this is a stupid question, because its for a graduate level virology course, but I don't have a huge background in viruses, and most of the lectures are centered around lab techniques.... Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

  • How to configure password on linksys router?

I reset the router because I was having connection issues. (so theoretically, it should reset password to default) The problem is, when I go to the site to reset the password (192.168.1.1) I get a message saying that it is taking too long to respond. All other sites are working fine. This is the site that is the general linksys password reset site. Plus, I checked my default gateway, and it is the correct one. All computers have their own static IP (if that makes any difference). I am very confuzzled, as I have never had this problem before.

  • I was wondering if anyone had any tips/advice/etc on communicating with other people?

I tend to have a problem communicating effectively with people. Talking to people I don't know is not something that I enjoy, but I realize that I need to be better at it than I am. My fiancee says that sometimes (in these situations) I act like I am better than the other person, or that I don't care about the topic, or I just seem rude. I do not mean to do any of these things, and it has never really bothered me before, but I think my lack of these communication skills is a big part of what cost me a spot in vet school. I have a phone appointment with the school to talk about my application and interview and how I can improve my application/interview for next time. I would really like any tips/advice/information to help me with my people skills/communication skills.

  • Error message when Microsoft works 8 tries to send me a reminder for something on my to do list.?

Here is the error message I am receiving:

"Microsoft Works 8 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Microsoft Works 8. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here."

And then it has two buttons: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send"

I have tried clicking each of them several times, and I've also tried just closing the window without clicking either button. I realize its a very vague message, but I do know that it only occurs when Works is trying to send me a reminder about an item on my to do list. The reminder used to work; the error has been occuring for a couple of weeks. I tried to look on Microsoft website, but I couldn't find anything that dealt with this problem.

  • I am getting married in May and am trying to find yellow and blue flowers?

I want yellow and blue flowers for my outdoor, country wedding. I wanted bluebonnets, but was told since they are wildflowers, they wouldn't last very long. I cannot seem to find a good website with info about this type of thing with info about specific flowers, their season, color, and hardiness. If you know anything about this, please respond, and link me to a website if possible. Thank you.

  • Horse population of Marion County Texas?

I am trying to find the horse population of Marion county, Texas, OR the population of horses in one of the towns such as Jefferson, Linden, or Lanier. I have searched online for quite a while and have not been able to find this information. If anyone has any idea where I could find this, or what might be a good sight to search, please tell me. Any input is greatly appreciated.

  • Shoulder pain?

For several years I have had pain in my right shoulder that comes and goes. Sometimes it doesn't hurt at all, sometimes just a little, and sometimes it hurts really bad. Sometimes it hurts so much that it makes the lower part of the side of my neck hurt, and my arm too. I cannot remember injuring it, but I tend to be very active, and don't worry too much about getting hurt. I am only 20, so I'm not sure what I could have done. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I tried to look on WebMD, but that website is pretty useless. My mom (who is a nurse) looked at it a year or so ago, and it has a tendency to kinda pop; she said there was specific term for that, but I forgot what it is. She said I could go get an X-ray the next time I come home (I'm at college right now) but I was wondering if anyone has anything like this, so maybe I could tell the doc that I have an idea of what is wrong.

  • Proper spelling, grammar, etc...?

Why do many people who ask and answer questions on this site not bother to use correct grammar and spelling? The mis-spelling especially bothers me because there is a spell-checker right right on the page. It doesn't take that long to do. Why don't people use it? Am I the only one who is bothered by this?

  • Orthodontic evaluation?

I am going to have an orthodontic evaluation to see exactly what they need to do braces-wise. Should I do anything between now and then? What should I expect at this appointment? How long after the evaluation do they put braces on? My little brother had braces a while back, (his teeth were really bad) but I don't really remember what he went through (I wasn't paying a lot of attention I guess, plus I was getting ready to start college)

  • Pre-natal vitamins for non-pregnant women - for hair, nail, and breast growth - does it work?

my friends hairdresser told her to take pre-natal vitamins to make her hair grow better. she said it also helped her fingernails, and made her boobs grow. I was wondering if this really works and why. And also if they are ok to take if you are not pregnant (she isn't and neither am I) I especially want to know about if they make your breasts grow.
