11 AnswersSnooker & Pool1 decade agoLet x = 1...?
Let x = 1.
Therefore,
x^5 = 1
Transpose
x^5 - 1 = 0
Factor
(x - 1)(x^4 + x³ + x² + x + 1) = 0
Divide by x - 1
x^4 + x³ + x² + x + 1 = 0
Now, since x = 1 (from above)
1^4 + 1³ + 1² + 1 + 1 = 0
Therefore,
1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 0
therefore,
5 = 0
What happened?
