Mercantilism is a difficult concept. Mercantilism is an economic theory that states that mother country should benefit from the colonies, The colonies existed for this purpose. Restrictions were placed the colonies trading Win other countries.
One of the results that the European powers wanted to secure colonies so that trade would be easier for them.
A second the idea that the colonies should have an unfavorable balance of trade. That means that a colony would send fewer good to the mother country than what they received. The colonies would make up the difference by sending gold for the balance and the mother country would feel wealthier.
