  • PS3 has loose HDMI port?

I bought my PS3 last November and got the latest model 80GB (no memory slots, no BC). After much research on the quality v/s price, i then finally decided to sacrifice my whole savings for Christmas and bought myself the ultimate gift to go along perfectly with my PS3; a Sony Bravia 40" LCD KLV-40S400A which is the cheapest Sony Bravia that i could find at the Sony Style shop, with 1080p full HD support. I also bought a $60 HDMI Sony certified cable from Sony Style shop. All that means that in my opinion, i did not in any way undermine or compromise on the quality.

Now, the problem is: whenever i'm playing, watching movies, surfing, doing whatever on the PS3, the HDTV screen simply flashes and flashes again and then the picture comes back and then it does the flashing randomly. There is really no time or situation. Whether there is a bluray in or not, the image sometimes plays fine for hours and then suddenly glitches in and out randomly. Now, this is very frustrating as it spoiled my gaming experience many times already and i can't play on my PS3 anymore without the fear of the screen going black and flickering. I have also upgraded to the latest firmware and the problem is still same.

Now, i have done my own research on this problem. I have a friend with a Japanese 40GB PS3 and he bought the exact same HDTV as mine. He also has the same problem. However he did tell me that the HDMI connection in the PS3 seemed loose. And if i were to budge it a little, the picture would come back on and hopefully stay. I did as i was told and presto! it worked. However this is no permanent cure to the problem, as i have to keep going back to the PS3 and budge the HDMI cable in the PS3 HDMI port until the problem goes away.

So... ultimately, my question is: has anyone ever had this problem? anyone noticed that the HDMI port in the PS3 does not firmly adhere to the HDMI cable provided by Sony? I bought the very best Sony gold-plated cable for a hefty $60 and i don't think spending on a cheaper HDMI will resolve the problem. What cable are you using? What TV do you have hooked up to your PS3? Anybody has had problems with the KLV-40S400A Sony Bravia model?
