Set default user account in XP?
I just changed my system to get rid of the login screens at startup (removed passwords from accounts as this is not a computer accessed by others). As windows automatically starts the system, the account started is "Administrator". I want to change this process to startup another user account. How do I do this?
1 AnswerSoftware9 years agoUser Account set as Administrator but have issues running programs?
My user account is listed as Computer Administrator, but many programs will only work properly if I choose "Run As" and select to run the program as a computer administrator. I have had security issues with viruses, but everything seems to be clean now. I have run virus software, optimizers and strip down the computer of all non-essential programs.
I cannot seem to find any topics on the MS website. I don't know if this is a legacy issue from the virus or some wacky security issue patch from MS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWindows XP - "Run As" required on Administrator Account?
My account is an administrator account on my Win XP Pro operating system. To properly execute programs however, I need to use "Run As" with "administrator" and my password.
I had security issues with the computer before and I cannot tell if this is a legacy issue from that incident or part of an update pack from MS. It seems to prevent modification of the program settings if I do not use this "run as" procedure.
I want to disable this requirement so I can just execute my programs after one log in.

1 AnswerPersonal Finance1 decade agoHow to manage shipping and returns of 3rd party items on Ebay sale?
If I sell an item through Ebay which is essentially from a third party storefront at a markup, how would I manage the shipping?
(Assume the item is not common place and would be hard for an average user to track down the 3rd party website themselves)
Should I have the item shipped directly to the bidder - The item will be shipped with an invoice and the bidder will now know the real price paid and where the purchase could be made at a cheaper rate.
If I ship to myself, then I incur the double shipping charge and the additional time required to obtain the shipment and resend.
Is there a better way?

1 AnswerSmall Business1 decade agoWhy not more selections for DVRs?
I have had Tivo for years and love it. I am making the switch to HD and am a little disappointed that my only choices are renting a box from Comcast (which doesn't perform up to the Tivo devices) and a high priced Tivo with a new service contract (I had the lifetime subscription).
My wife's computer has software which makes her computer function as a Tivo with pretty good performance (Dell Media Package). I guess I am just surprised that there aren't more selections out there - the way there are for DVDs or BlueRay devices. Is there some reason why DVRs aren't more prevalent?
1 AnswerTiVO & DVRs1 decade agoStaqtistical Probability of items below -1 SD from Mean?
I am preparing a weather analysis claim for abnormally cold days during winter period. I used a 30 year data set to get a mean average temp and standard deviation for each day. We consider an abnormally cold day to be below the mean - 1 standard deviation, which should occur about 15.9% of the time (68.2% occurring within 1 SD of mean and abnormally warm being over +1 SD from mean and not claimed). Assuming that the 15.9% is generally a given for most data, can I say that in any given winter period (12/1 to 3/31 or 121 Calendar Days) that one would expect to have 15.9% of the days be lower than -1SD from Mean? I know big picture that should be expected over a large sample, but can it be said that one should anticipate that in an upcoming year? My reasoning is that you will always have abnormally cold days during a winter period - what is the threshold for an abnormally cold winter (based upon abnormally cold days) - 15.9% of 121 or 19 calendar days or greater?
