Is mint oil safe around dogs?
I heard somewhere that mint oil is a good insecticide. I wanna try it out for this spring but I wanna know if it could hurt my dog. If someone knows if I apply it inside and outside the house, will it hurt my dog if she licks it? Otherwise I'll have 2 run 2 home depot n find a pet safe insecticide. Thanks in advance everyone! =)
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoDog got hookworms n I have questions?
So the fecal sample came out positive for hookworms. The vet gave me some medicine to give my pooch. Well everything is taken care of. What I forgot to ask (vet isnt open til tomorrow) was if I Should disinfect my house or patio or if there is any special cleaning. Also, I live with my parents still and have 2 little siblings. One of them is 3, the other is 5. Obviously they play a lot with her n touch her sometimes let her give them kisses on their hands. Should I Be worried about them. Or any precautions I should take with them or anyone in the family includin herself. The vet did tell me to not walk outside barefoot hah n duh i wouldn't do that.
1 AnswerDogs1 decade agoShould I remove my acrylic nails?
So got them about 3 weeks ago. I got them filled in after 2 weeks. Should I remove them in a week to not damage them. My natural nails underneath are already growing and almost reaching my acrylics tips. I got them clipped before they applied the acrylic but theyre already super long. If I do take them off I'll leave them alone for about 3 weeks and then get a new set. Do you think it's a good idea or do I just keep getting fill-ins And if I keep them how long should I keep them on fopr? THANX IN ADVANCE! :)

2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoProblems with my dog's leash!?
So about 3 weeks ago I bought a new leash for my dog. This because it would come off for no appearant reason. She doesn't pull when we walk so I figured she just needed a new leash. Well, today (with the new leash)during her evening walk it happened again 3 times. Again, she doesn't pull. She was shaking the snow off her one of the times it happened. She just looked at me confused and ran back 2 me when she realized I wasnt by her side lol (sigh). For now I will exercise her indoors cuz I don't wanna take any chances. I checked the collars. It happened with both her regular and prong collar. I test the hook and collar and everything seems fine. I dnt wanna go buy another collar/leash unless I know for sure that it will solve my problem. Does anyone have an idea why this might happen? Any good suggestions 2 solve this problem are appreciated as well. Thanks everyone.
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhy did I receive the tax document 1099-G? what is it for?
I have never received unemployment or anything of that sort. I got 3 of them in the mail. If im not mistaken the amount shown on them is what I received last year on my income tax return. Does that mean I'm supposed 2 pay taxes on what I received last time. Or what is it exactly for? I am clueless about this I am 20 and live in Illinois. If someone would be so nice as 2 explain 2 me what this form is for. I'm assuming I should bring it with me when I do my tax claim.
5 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoRecent chewing problem and has plenty of chew toys. What else can I do!!!?
My almst 11 mnth old boxer mix developed an annoying chewing problem this last month. Ever since she came home 5 mnths ago I give her plenty of banklets while she sleeps in her crate. Now that its winter I also cover hercrate with banklets. And she loved her blankets. She would roll and play with them (not chew) during the day. It was cute and she would also carry a stuffed monkey around w/her all the time. She would sleep and cuddle with that monkey. Well she chewed them all. I took away the stuffed toys ever since then and the blankets one by one. I had to throw them all away except for one I use to cover her crate. I keep it hidden in a closet till its time for bed. She dsnt sleep with a blanky or stuffed toys now. I leave an empty kong toy which she loves. She pulls on the blanky covering her crate and chews on it. Chews on curtains 2. I discipline her n I can tell she knows its unacceptabl. But no succes. I've always made sure she has plenty of good chew toys. What else can I do or what am I doing wrong?
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoAre these fruits ok to feed to my dog?
Sugar cane, tamarind, guava, yellow mombin (jobo), and red beet. I googled it but couldn't find much info. =( I'm almost positive the guava and tamarind wouldn't be a good idea. But I still don't know about the mombin and sugar cane. Reason I ask i because for Christms my family and I make a traditional Mexican fruit punch. We brew those and other fruits like pears and apples to make a yummy warm punch. With the red beet we make a fruit yummy salad. These are my favorite part of our Christmas dinner and I would love to share some with my dog. I figured it wouldn't be too bad since it's only sugar from the fruit. I wanna know about these fruits before I dare feed her any. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thnks in advance and have a Merry Christmas! And Happy Hlidays!!!!
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat are reasons a female dog would eat her neborn puppies? This is not my dog! btw?
My mom always tells me about this dog. She had a shetland sheepdog when she was a little girl. I Have to say back then spaying a dog in Mexico wasn't really popular or they would have. Anyway the story: everytime the dog had a litter she ate most if not all. They lived in the city and the dog was inside the house so there wasnt a possibility of another animal eating the pups. My grandpa always made sure the pups n mom were fine after birth and few mins later they wld be gone and he found a piece of one in her mouth one day. This wasnt the first female dog they had so my grandpa although not a breeder, knew how to care for the dog during pregnancy, during labor, after labor, n for the pups. First time this happened they werent sure if it had been the dog who killed them so they didnt do anything. It was the second time she had pups that they noticed. Dunno how but eventually they got rid of the dog. Again this is not my dog and just curious, what u think the reasons for this could be?
9 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow do you keep your dog from chewing on your Christmas ornaments?
So now that our tree is up my dog loves it she loves staring at it! Well when we're not looking she grabs our ornaments and loves chewing on it. Well we expected this since it's her first Christmas. So what we do is exactly what we did to make her stop chewing on our carpet. We spray our tree with glass cleaner...she hates the smell. Our tree is fake so I wouldn't mind her being there is she didn't eat our beautiful homamade ornaments! Well the glass cleaner works for a little bit but once the scent is gone she tries to go back to it. I also tried spraying her with water it seems to help a little. Is there a better/easier way to train her not to chew on them or is what I'm doing so far just it. Any good suggestions will help a lot! Thanks in advance!
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow do I teach my dog the "down stay" command?
We were taught the command last thursday but my dog for some reason wouldn't go down and I concentrated more on making her go down during the class. Our trainer usually gives us a sheet with instructions of the commands we learn that day but not for this week. I've been trying t remember but I just can't! She does the down fine now (she did before just that day she wouldn't do it). I need to practice this command with her, but I can't if I don't know it right? lol I might just end up phoning the trainer. But if anyone can help me with step by step instructions on how you do it, that would be awesome! Oh yes, we have mastered the "sit stay" command, I just don't remember if there was anything different for the "down stay" one. Thanks in advance everyone!
7 AnswersDogs1 decade agoIs my puppy too old to have her dewclaws removed?
I got my Boxer puppy about 3 months ago, she was 6 months at the time. My dad just told me recently that if I still can I should have her dew claws removed. I understand the reasons and agree with them but my only concern is that my puppy might be too old for this procedure. I know she would be too old for ear cropping (that i wouldn't do) so I assumed she would be too old for this too. Again if it was possible I would get it done because she has hurt herself before because of them. I have an appoinment with the vet for another specific reason but i might ask him about this while I'm there. I would like to know what you guys would think. My dad says it should be done but only if the vet says its fine. My dad has owned many boxers before but he always got them when they were weeks old and from reputible breeders so they were done by the time he had them. I got mine from a shelter and she is a boxer mix.
12 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow much would headlights cost?
I know nothing about cars! I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE i just noticed earlier 2day that my left headlight is off. Good thing I Don't work 2morrow so I have all day tomorrow to get it fixed. I want to know how much money to get ready. I pretty much need to know the cost of the product cuz I can ask my dad or his friend to do the labor for me and they usually charge me less (well my dad will do it for free if he knows how to) on second thought....how much would I normally be charge for this job if i buy whatever parts I need. So I guess that was 2 questions, please answer both. Thanks in advance!

4 AnswersDogs1 decade agoAny xoloitzquintli owners in Illinois?
I just have questions. lol duh.....well if you are a xoloitzquintli owner in Illinois how do you protect them from the cold or walk them during our awesome winters? Is there anything special you have to do to help them through the weather or am I just exaggerating? And another thing. Reason for these questions is because I hope to get one in the future maybe a year from now. So I have been searching for a breeder around the chicagoland area but I havent found one yet. If you know of one could you let me know. I am hoping to find a good breeder not a backyard breeder. Or if there is any other way I can get one. I was hoping for adoption from a shelter but I'm not sure they'll have any since I've never seen a xolo around here. Of course that would be my first option if possible. Any other info you can give me on this breed would be wonderful. I'm still trying to learn more about them. Thanks in advance! Oh, I might post more questions about this breed in the next few months.
4 AnswersDogs1 decade agoMy dog ate some garlic!!!!?
I left her alone for a couple minutes while I grabbed something from my room. I came back to find her with a bag of garlic and chewing on a few pieces. I took what she had in her mouth and gave her water immediately. I also gave her a teaspoon of plain yogurt cuz I've been told it helps with her digestion. If anyone can advice me and tell me if what I did was fine or if there is anything else I could do for her. Since it just happened I'm not seeing any bad reactions so far. She is a 45 Lbs 9 month female boxer mix. she ate prbably like 2 pieces and i took 3 that she was chewing on. And yes I know it was my fault for leaving the garlic at her reach and yes I will take her to the vet if any horrible symptoms appear. I just wanna know if there is anything I can do for her at the moment.
14 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat are the best dog bones out there?
I want a bone that wont hurt my dog (duh). I give her wild west shank bones. She loves them except i hate that ahe eats them...n she already freaked me out once. I know rawhide is not good at all. I wantsomething thats digestible n wont hurt her stomach if she eats it...if there is such thing. Or something that wont break n she wont be able to eat. I want something safe but I don't know where to start so I figured at least a few of you would be able to help. Thanks in advance!
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoQuestion about xoloitzquintl?
So I've been doing some research on the xoloitzcuintl breed and so far from what I've learned I feel I would be fine with getting one....so would my family and my boxer puppy. (I'm not planning on getting it til maybe a year or 2 from now, I Still got a lot to teach my boxer for now) Anyway my question would be if anyone knows about this breed, can you tell me if you know of anyone having a hairless xolo in Illinois? If I did get one it would obviously be an indoor dog like my other one but I would love to know if anyone can tell me if this would be enough to protect her from the Chicagoland crazy temp. I'm trying to learn as much about this breed as possible for now this is my only concern, but if there is anything else anyone could tell me about them I would really appreciate it. THANX!
