  • Any better DISH antennas?

Every time we have a large rainstorm in our area (It doesn't even have to rain here at the house) and we get a total lose of signal. Is there a better (larger, maybe?) antenna.

  • Can you still drive over the Hoovetr Dam?

I have been told that, since the new bridge is done, you now have to park at the top and take a bus down to the Dam. Has anyone been there in the past week or so? We are going out the week after Labor Day.

  • Do they REALLY prosecute video pirates?

We have two guys at work selling videos. But when you play a DVD there is this FBI warning about how illegal it is to sell copies of these videos. Neither of these guys is trying to hide their video sales. One of these guys even brags that he makes over $1000 a week selling videos.

  • Are oil companies really paying more for crude?

Isn't the over $100/barrel price just on the futures market? I have heard that the oil companies are not actually paying any more for the crude oil they are buying right now than they were before. That is why their profits were at record highs during the last spike in the futures market.

And IF this is true, then why isn't that a violation of the price gouging laws?

  • Need help with wage and hour laws.?

A friend has asked for help in finding the section of "Wage and Hour Laws of Indiana" that says that an employer cannot require an hourly worker to work when he is not being paid. I used to have the "Wage and Hour Laws of Indiana" that is published by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. However that book was in our old house that was vandalized and I believe it was one of the books that were destroyed.

Even better, I would love to find the quote (I believe by a Federal judge) that sounds something like," An hourly worker cannot be compelled to work even one second without being compensated>"

  • Why assume union is greedy?

I posted two previous questions about my union and the company I work for. ALL of the replies so far have been almost hateful against the union and the union workers. No one expressed any interest in the details at all. They ALL assumed that the union was a bunch of greedy manipulative lowlifes.

What is so funny is that the union sides with the employer in this case. It is the employees themselves who have questions about what is being done.

Maybe some of us are a little small minded?

  • Why are normal people so against the unions?

I asked a question about a maybe illegal activity from an employer to it's union employees. All the responses so far have been hate against the unions. They assume that we union members are greedy and asking for the moon. I believe that we have taken a big enough cut already. Some employers are being greedy and using the times to unfairly beat down their employees. One recent auto giant asked it's union members to take another pay cut saying that they were losing money. That same company 2 weeks later announced a one BILLION dollar profit for the last quarter of last year. Sometimes unions ARE needed to protect the little guys.

  • Can a union or employer threaten to close a plant if we do not accept their one contract proposal?

The Union says that the plant management has assured them that the plant will close if this offer, the only offer we have been given, is not voted in. They announced the vote this Monday and we vote on Sunday. We will have 2 hours for approximately 600+ employees to cast our votes. This is the same proposal that we have voted down two times already. The first time by a 94% vote and the second time by a 84% vote against the proposal. We are a UAW plant that supplies automotive parts to various auto companies.

I know that it is against federal law to threaten to close a plant when the union is taking a vote to unionize. Isn't this the same thing?

  • Do "wooly worms" change color?

A friend asked me if wooly worms started out as white and then changed to brown or black.(Like I would know! lol) There is an old wife's tale that brown wooly worms mean a milder winter than black wooly worms. If wooly worms change color from white to brown and then black, for instance, then it would only mean you are seeing them at different stages of their life. Hence the question: DO wooly worms change color?

  • Sold farm with no house.?

I sold a small farm with no house on it. I had a mortgage on the property and the selling price was more than the mortgage. But I inherited this property last year and paid inheritance tax on it. When I sold the property, it sold for $55,000 less than the appraised value when I inherited it. Now the realtor is saying that I will get a 1099 for the difference between what I owed on the mortgage and what I recieved from the buyer. Do I have to list this as income or, since it sold at a loss, is this a wash?

  • If I inherited property (Land), and paid inheritance taxes on it, then I sell it for less than I paid taxes on?

I paid off my mother's bills after she passed away and I kept a small farm she had. I ended paying inheritance taxes on that farm. Now I have had to sell the farm and in these times I got less than what I paid taxes on. Doesn't this mean that I can claim a loss on this year's taxes?
