Hey, I'm just a a retired journalist and publisher (OK, so I've been a photographer, printing company owner, and worked in radio as well as the print media (not TV though, I don't stoop THAT low). I've started, and failed at, a number of businesses including a photo studio, written and published a comic book (wanna buy 4,893 un-circulated copies?), taught myself BASIC on a Commodore 64 (that's a first generation personal computer), have written a couple of novels (which remain unpublished as of this writing, but I have high hopes for them), flown radio-controlled airplanes (but not the "real" ones) and live in Northern California (out in the boonies where, I constantly tell folks, our biggest problem is dodging loose cows) and am enjoying the scenery and benefits of clean air, lack of drive-by shootings and the absence of noisy neighbors. Excuse me a moment. "YES, DEAR, what?" Oh, yes, and, I've just been reminded, my wife of many, long-suffering years.
Bad Examples of 'Going Green"?
This question is not serious, but, rather just to play with and have fun.
Assume you want to "go green"...and what you think is doing "good", turns out to be the worst thing you could do.
Example: Instead of drying clothes in the electric dryer, you turn the dryer off and hang the clothes on the outside line, reducing air pollution by NOT burning coal to make the electricity, AND you are saving money... BUT the dog gets hold of the clothes and chews 'em all up, resulting in you spending $500 for a new wardrobe...which was made in China, which means our balance of payments got worse and 25 people in Memphis were laid off due to not having to dig coal for the power plant.
Everyone give me ONE example and I'll pick the winner...unless you come back and VOTE overwhelmingly for ONE winner.
5 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoWhy do folks ask "questions" that are really "opinions" or homework assignments here?
All too often I see posted here what are clearly someone's "opinion", or biased viewpoint, that is masked as a question. Example, "What celebrity is the best singer?" That is NOT a question, it's a poll. Maybe Yahoo should have a "Yahoo Reader Polls" section?
Secondly, I see more questions posted that, upon reading, are questions assigned as homework (or reading assignments) that young people want someone ELSE to do, not them. There's a section for "homework help", post it there. It's a waste of our time to read the questions, much less answer them. Besides, a lot of the "answers" given are not only wrong, but intentionally wrong. Grrrrr.
OK, see this question? It was NOT a question, but a gripe of mine...and should not have been here...it doesn't have anything to do with "news and journalism."
