Should I become a parent?
I really don't want to be a mother and I really don't want to be responsible for another human being that is cursed with my crooked teeth and bad eyesight. I really don't want to give up my job or have to do the 'second shift' of house keeping and cooking. I really don't want to get fat, or have to depend on a man. I don't want to be 'just so and so's Mum'. I want to travel and work and dig ditches in Ethiopia and ski and sleep in late on the weekends.
BUT everybody implies that that will all change if I actually have a kid. That I will be so happy and in love with the baby that I won't mind all the changes to my life, my body and my relationships. Are they right? Am I missing out? Should I go ahead and have a kid even though I really don't want one? Are you totally stuck if you decide that you don't enjoy motherhood?

16 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoI read that women are happier single and men are happier married; true?
I think that the same article said that married men live longer than single men and that married women suffer from more mental illness and depression than single women.
What do you think?
22 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoWhat is the treatment for an ulcerated intestine?
I think that I have developed an intestinal ulcer, or something else nasty from taking Mefenamic Acid as prescribed by my doctor. I have stopped taking it and made an appointment, but I am wondering what they would do to treat it anyway? Would it clear up on its own? Should I be doing/eating anything to help the healing?

6 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoWhich processor is faster Celeron M 430 1.73 GHz or Athlon XP 3000+ 797MHz?
These are both 'mobile' processors and are in laptops. I've found something online that says that the Athlon actually runs at 1.6 GHz if wired up a certain way and I know that the Celeron is a low end spec....
My old company laptop has the Athlon and my new one has the Celeron and I am worried that it won't actually be any faster. Has my company bought me a lower spec machine?
6 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoWhat is a good eye / anti-wrinkle cream for a 30 something?
I'm 31 and just starting to get bigger pores and lines around my eyes and on my forehead. I'm never sure which creams are intended for youngish people and which are intended for those over 60. Any suggestions as to the best products to use to stay as youthful looking as long as posslbe?
I'm pretty good about drinking water and getting sleep and my fruit and veg and I don't smoke so this would just be extra insurance.
14 AnswersOther - Skin & Body1 decade agoHow do you decide whether to have children or not?
I'm 31, single, professional and I really, really don't want to have kids. Everybody, but everybody says that I will change my mind, but that I mustn't do it too late.
The thought of having a baby in the next 5 years is like a death sentence. That means I have only 5 years to meet my travelling, career, personal and financial goals. Then its 20 years of looking after someone elses life instead of living my own.
'They' say that it is irresponsible to have babies after 35 (birth defects, fertility problems), but un-thinkable to get ones tubes tied if you haven't had kids.
'They' also say that I will love my child and will never regret having it and will never miss losing out on my career, travel, sleeping in etc.
How do I make this decision? Is it really now or never?
24 AnswersOther - Family & Relationships1 decade agoAny one have an unwanted pregnancy and miss the life they had before the baby?
'They' all say that when you have a baby, even if you never wanted one, that your opinion changes and that your kid becomes the best thing in your life and you don't miss the great life you had when you were childfree. Are they right or wrong?
10 AnswersOther - Family & Relationships1 decade agoHow representative a group are we in terms of birth rate?
I've been asking a lot of questions about motherhood but I don't seem to be getting very balanced answers. Possible the Answers community aren't 'typical' of the British population at large. The birth rate in Britain is currently 1.7 children per woman. How many do you have and how old are you? It seems like everyone on here has a lot of kids!
