  • Using the strtok function?

    I am working on a shell program, and am trying to parse a line. I learned Java and assembly, but am asked to do this in C++ within linux. :/

    I found in the C++ library that you can use the strtok function to seperate sequenced characters with defined delimiters. When I put this into eclipse, it keeps giving me a "Function 'strtok' could not be resolved" error.

    #include <stdio.h>

    #include <iostream>

    #include <string.h>

    #include <cstring>

    #include <cstdlib>

    using namespace std;

    int main() {

    char str[100];

    char * pch;

    //char* dummy;

    cout << "Welcome the Command Line Interface" << endl; // prints Welcome to Brian's Command Line Interface

    cout << "\n" << ">";

    for(;;){

    cin.getline(str, 100); // receive command from console

    cout << str; //repeat output to console

    pch = strtok(str," "); //check command

    if (pch == "exit"){break;} //check for exit command

    while (pch != NULL){

    cout << pch << endl;

    pch = strtok(NULL, " ");

    }

    }

    return 0;

    }

  • How often should my daughter be going out on a date at 15?

    My daughter is dating a friend of hers from her old school. She is a 10th grader, he is a 9th grader. I trust her, and we have a very open dialog. She is not sexually active.. I would say atleast 2+years away.

    I am a single Dad with a 13 year old son as well. They go over their Mom's one weekday per week from 5pm-9pm and then one weekend per month.

    The boy was at my ex's house for their first "date" on Friday. I took them both to a ballgame on Sunday from 11am to about 6-7pm. She wants to go over his house on Sunday. With school and work, the weekends are when we get most of our stuff accomplished. I was planning on moving extra stuff in my Condo into storage.

    I don't like the idea of her going over there, but I do know his parents and he is a good kid. I don't think he is "planning" anything. My daughter is also an honor student and gets tons of homework.

    I want to say no as she just went out on 2 dates, but I want to keep the good relationship and openness going with my daughter.

    So, how often should you let your daughter date at 15.

  • should I get my brother a graduation gift?

    My brother graduated college last week. We are having his graduation party tonight. My parents are paying. My sister and brother are not getting him anything.... atleast not right now.

    I was going to get him something, but I think it would be awkward if I was the only one getting him something.

  • How have we not died of nuclear testing?

    I was reading the lead story about the US declaring our 5113 nuclear weapons, read some comments and decided to check to see how many have been tested.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100503/ap_on_go_ca_st...

    If a nuclear war would destroy the earth and make it unliveable, then how has the earth survived 2083 nuclear ...tests? 711 of which were atmospheric meaning not underground. That comes to an average of 1 test every 10 days.

    The bomb dropped on Hiroshima was .02 Megatons. Over the span, atleast five of those tested in the atmosphere were over 10 Megatons with the largest being the Tsar Bomba at 50 Megatons.

    So how are we not living in some post apocalyptic nuclear fallout world? I am not routing for a war obviously, but am wondering if the fear mongers have exagerated their impact.

    Any thoughts?

  • Is it me, or is Talyor Swift really singing off key in the Grammies?

    I love swift, but she was almost unlistenable to this evening. I couldn't wait for her to get off the stage.

  • How does repainting a desk turn out?

    I making over my daughters room for Christmas. New Bed, Mattress, curtains, chair, decorations. Trying to save as much as I can and find creative ways to dress things up. she is 14, and very artsy. for instance, I am going to put a white board on her wall as she writes novels. I figure she could use it to storyboard.

    Anyway. she has a desk she is uring for her PC. It is a normal... oh $60-80 desk like you would pick up at target or walmart. I hate to throw it away, and it would still work in the room.... but it is the wrong color.

    I was reading online about repainting desks. clean, sand, primer, repaint, polyurethane. It would also allow me a more creative desk in the end.

    I am building her headboard myself.

  • Should the couple that crashed the state party be brought under charges?

    I am getting tired of seeing how the media is fawning over this couple (the Salahis) who crashed a government sponsored dinner. What they did was deception at the highest level. Furthermore, doesn't this encourage real terrorist to try this? And it turns out this was for some publicity for a reality show.

    Isn't there something they can be charged with?

  • Are you tired of Sarah Palin yet?

    I am really getting tired of this retoric she keeps spreading since she left her office to make money on speaking. She was freaking people out with her "death panel" speech this summer. Why is she over China discouraging investors in China? Does she not realize that speeches like that could possibly hurt the US currency, which in turn could hurt the US economy? I like McCain, but I blame her for giving this idiot a podium to speak from.

  • Should I pay a Child Support payment in cash?

    My ex requested that I pay my monthly child support for this month in cash ($700). I do not feel comfortable doing this as I always pay with a check. She sent a check to our kids private school and I think she wrote the check hoping to beat out it being deposited so she is hoping it will clear sooner.

    I looked into a money order or cashier's check, but while semi traceable, it isn't like a check or something that I can put a memo note on that I can save digitally. Either way, a cashier's check or money takes just as long to clear as an instate check nowadays with the new banking laws.

  • Is the government trying to crash the economy with the sudden halt of Cars for Clunkers?

    I work in a dealership and this program comes with a 200+ dealer manual that we had to sift through. We had to get all the forms in line and spend money to run this program... and they stop it after 6 days with 4 hours notice? We only have 10 car waiting to be delivered on it. This kills a dealers reputation because they don't blame the goverment... THEY BLAME US.

    I personally think this a bad idea (the program), but you can't just pull the plug without proper notice. We already have $31500 of these rebates on the road that we are going to be stuck with if we are not reimbursed with.

  • Is not the time to invest in your 401K? How much of a return can I expect?

    I am 35, divorced with 2 kids and renting. I make about 52K per year and pay alot in Child Support. In spite of this I am still able to put about 6% now into my 401K and save about another 1-2% per year in a high yield savings. My employer matches 2% so I have an effective deposit of 8% (which is about 4200 per year)

    I only have about 6K in the 401K now in there now after losing 40% last year. I am in a a fund that is 80% higher risk and 20% conservative. I have about 4.5K in my high yeild savings. I also only have about 3000 left on my car loan and 5.5K on my student loan.

    It is exciting to see my 401K bounce up 16% within the last 3 months though I know that is not the norm. I was always told to expect a 6-10% on the higher risk funds overall.

    As a younger investor for the long term, am I looking at a better rate of return in the 10-12% over the next 5-8 years?

  • Has your view of Michael Jackson changed with his death?

    I was such a big fan of his growing (35 yo). So I grew up with MTV (when it played music), Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat it.

    I always respected him and thought he was an amazing performer on the level of the Beatles and Elvis.

    As time went on, the reports and trials of his "indiscretions" really tainted him in my eyes, but I still like his music. One of my favorites songs is the duet between McCartney and jackson (say, say).

    I like most others blame his parents for what he turned into, but in the end he did nothing to me personally but give me great music and changed the music industry for the better. He redefined the music video and showed that music could impact the world in positive ways through all his charity events.

    I don't feel bad for him as some have said dying at 50. He lived more in 50 years than most of us do in 20.

    I think I will remember his music and videos and look past all the rest. We are all flawed, some more than others.

    Any thoughts?

    PS: I do believe he did those bad things, but it was never proven and he wasn't found guilty. I believe a person who is found not guilty shouldn't be forced to where a scarlet letter afterwards.

  • Do I really need an implant to keep my teeth from falling out?

    My dentist pulled my lower back tooth 2 years ago and the one on the other side is going to have to go. cracked from having wisdom teeth extracted years ago.

    He showed me this video that remaining teeth will come out like dominos over time.... but it has been 2 years since the one extraction and I don't think they have shifted. I am very big boned if that makes a difference.

    The thing is I actually like not having that last tooth as it makes it easier to maintain the rest. Furthermore, my teeth have always been crowded. They could probably shift over time, if they do and it would probably improve my bite.

    I understand the uppers would have to come out too eventually, but I am ok with that.

    He keeps pushing these $2500 implants. I really don't have the money for it as I have kids in private school and pay about $800/month child support.

  • Young Parents, do you ever feel like at bit of an outcast at your kid's school?

    My now ex-wife and I had our child when I was 21 and she was 19. Our send 18 months later. My daughter is now entering High School... and I feel old in some ways even though I am only 35. My daughter will graduate when I am 39 and my son when I am 41.

    At our kid's school which is very parent involved (Charter), I have always felt like a bit of an outcast. There is only one other parent who is close to my age. The rest are in their 40's and 50's.

    Anyone else feel this way?

    I have always looked at the positives. When I am in my 40's and 50's, my expenses will be so much lower than theirs.

    It is not that my kids are financially hurting. They are going to a great charter school and my daughter is entering a $24K per year friends High School. My Ex and I work as best as we can together in raising the kids without too much conflict.

  • Why does the government wrongfully believe cutting dealers will help save GM?

    I work for a Honda Pontiac Cadillac dealership. For us, GM has been a minority franchise at best as we do about 90% Honda. It has been that way since the beginning of the 90s.

    What I don't think most people understand is that dealers don't really get money from GM to operate. A dealer is not part of GM. We buy the cars to GM. In fact, we have to pay GM franchise fees to operate and are in fact the ones that actually buy then resell the cars from GM factories.

    If you close down dealerships, you limited the outlets to which you can sell these cars to the public. I personally don't get it.

    Many misrun dealers are going to go away anyway through attritian.

    In many ways, it is like saying that you are going to save Sony buy closing down Circuit Citys and Best Buys and alot of local Electronic Shops. I just don't get it.

    The only semi-realistic argument that I have heard is people saying that less dealers will drive up the value. This sounds like it is a good idea except for the fact that GM is the one pushing these extra cars down our throats and then having to further discount them with rebates to get the public to buy.

    It is like the Solstice. We couldn't get more than 4-6 per year the first two years when the public wanted them. Now GM is trying to force our dealership to stock up on them now that demand for them has died.

  • How many credit cards should I have?

    I am 35 and divorced and make about 52K per year. I used to have really bad credit (<500), but after years of rebuilding, I am now a 708.

    I did it first through my student loans when I went back to school at 28. Then added a car loan through roadloans. Refinanced that later through my credit union. Made sure I paid my bills on time. Built up an emergency cash reserve of about what I would need to live on for 3 -4 months (or 8-12 with Unemployment ... not that I am looking to get fired).

    I added a Capital One Credit Card last year. I basically use it for my daily groceries and dining out budget... usually about 300/month. I pay it off in full each month.

    Should I add additional cards. Perhaps a Discover, MC, AMEX? How many is too many? How many is too few?

    I am looking to buy a house once I get done paying my Child Support (700/month) in about 4-6 years.

    I try to live a cash lifestyle and have been doing the "pay yourself first" plan for about 3-4 years now.

    My understanding is that I should add more than one in a 6 month period or else it will dive my score.

  • If you live within your means, how much of your taxes do you get back in value?

    Theoretically, when you pay taxes it goes to the greater which in turn helps you. In a way you are purchasing a service.

    I am divorced, make 50K per year and pay about 12K per year in local, state and federal taxes. I put 7.5% in SSI, another 15% in federal tax, another 3% in State and 1% in local.... not to mention sales and fuel tax.

    All said and done, I am giving up about $15K per year in taxes or about 1200 per month.

    I drive about 2 miles to and from work and average about 8K miles per year. I am fit in my mid 30s, save my money, pay my child support ($700) and so on and so forth.

    I am a liberal democrat, but our current system seems to favor those who abuse the system... by that I mean people who use roads and other services much more than the majority of people.

    I personally think a sales tax is better. Well except that the rich would find ways around it... but they do now anyway except for those in the spotlight.

  • Is Adam Lambert, on Idol, the best contestant you have ever seen?

    His vocal range and star quality are unmatched in my eyes. Unlike other previous winners and runner ups like Underwood, Clarkson, Cook and even Dautry, I could serious see him being one of those great legendary artists like Steve Tyler, McJagger, Madonna, Elvis.. etc.

  • Where should I go on vacation to?

    I am divorced with 2 kids (12 & 14). I live in PA and am looking for a Vacation for less than $1500 TOTAL. The best that I can think of is Florida (aside from Disney World). The problem is we are going the 2nd week of August. I read that it is a high of 92ºf in August (Usually about 86ºf here in PA... similar humidity). Is it too hot or do you think we will be ok. We often have hot stretches here hitting near the 100ºf mark.

    We have gone to: NYC, Niagara Falls, Chicago, Main, PA (home state), Ocean City - MD, Washington DC, Virginia. I am running out of places to go.

    I considered the west coast, but airfare alone would be about 600+baggage to the west coast.
