  • Metabolic rate?

Just wondering, how much does one's metabolism slow down when they stop eating/starve themselves dieting? I've seen some people say it gets cut down 30%, someone else said it goes down as low as 500.

Also, I was under the impression that BMR was the min number of cals your bodyu burns to stay alive, and is measured under controlled conditions, when someone has been fasting and immobile for a while...how could starvation drop it below this? I realize it's a defense mechanism, but it just doesn't make sense to be able to drop below a minimum?

  • Possible to lose 50 lbs in 10 weeks?

I need to lose as much weight as possible by the end of May (without amputating a limb or having surgery preferably).

Right now I'm jogging/walking between 25-35 miles a week, eating less than 500 calories a day (im a vegan...the calories are mostly raw fruits and veggies and soy milk..and of course plenty of water), and I'm also drinking a can of (sugarfree)redbull or taking diet pills before I work out to give me energy and boost my metabolism.

I realize that there are a ton of potentially serious health risks involved with this kind of dieting, and that the odds are against me in being able to keep the weight off, but I just want to know if it's reasonable for me to expect to lose about 50lbs (right now Im 5'5" and about 195lbs)
