How can I perform a stress analysis on a CAD file?
I have a CAD model of a car chassis and would like to place loads on the beams on which the suspension would be acting on in order to get an idea of the stress involved in the chassis and the beams that are most likely to fail. I have ProEngineer and Autodesk Simulation Multiphysics.
Is there a tutorial out there that can guide me on how to take the ProE .asm file and place loads to gather data?
2 AnswersEngineering7 years agoList of terms for additive manufacturing?
I'm teaching a 10th grade (year 11) class on additive manufacturing and I'm wanting to give the students a list of vocabulary relating to AM. I've had trouble finding a decent list anywhere online and I don't want to miss anything too important. A link to a list of terminology would be useful, thanks!

1 AnswerEngineering8 years agoI am looking for a material to make a pin out of which supports the following loads...?
I am designing a pin joint to support
45.5MPa shear stress
100MPa bearing stress
What materials should I be looking at?
I will be making the pins 1.4cm diameter and 1cm length.

I have the following code:
%Finding poles
poles=roots(den);
p1=real(poles);
p2=imag(poles);
a=1/(abs(p1)); b=1/(abs(p2)); c=pi/(k*wn);
dt=0.01*min(a, b, c);
tmax=10*max(a, b, c);
but i get an error saying
Error using min
MIN with two matrices to compare and a working dimension is not supported.
Error in m286_wk5_data_200821393 (line 19)

how do I fix this?

1 AnswerAstronomy & Space8 years agoQuestion on electrical strain gauges and their output?
An aluminium cylindrical strain gauge load call is to be specified to
measure a force of 40 kN. The maximum stress in the metal is to be 20 MPa, the modulus of
elasticity is 65 GPa and Poisson’s ratio is 0.33. If it is instrumented with four active strain
gauges (two axial and two transverse) with S = 2.1, R = 350 Ω, and the power supply is 10 V,
what will be the output at maximum load?
2 AnswersEngineering9 years agoModulus of elasticity, poisson's ratio, strain gauges?
A strip of cast iron is 20 cm long and has a cross-section of 3 cm by 0.4 cm. The strip is
subjected to an axial load of 450 kg. Strain gauges are attached to the iron, one in the axial
direction and one in the transverse direction. The axial gauge indicates a strain of 1100 με
and the transverse gauge indicates a strain of -300 με. Estimate the modulus of elasticity and
Poisson’s ratio for this material.
I have no clue how to apply the strains to the question after finding stress.
1 AnswerEngineering9 years agoVietnam rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta question?
The following question is about the tropical regions of the Mekong Delta:
After the rice is picked by individual farmers (not commercial), where is it transported to in order for it to get distributed?
I am asking for a specific location in Vietnam.
Again, I am wondering about local farmers who have to then transport it by boat, not mass production in business-owned fields.
