  • What problems would arise if same sex marriage is to be allowed in Australia?

I'm doing a Commerce assignment of changing laws in Australia so I just need some extra info. Please help :) Best answer gets 10 points.

Okay, so say that a gay or lesbian couple can now marry in Australia, and we would also accept overseas homosexual marriages as marriages in Australia. Religious ministers would still have the right to refuse to solemnise ceremonies inconsistent with their beliefs, so that aspect won't be a problem anymore. Are there any other problems that you think would arise if same sex marriages will be allowed? Thank you!

  • This question has been on my mind lately...?

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU ANSWER. This question has been on my mind lately. I'm really not trying to start a huge controversy here, so I'm really really sorry if I offend any meat eaters. Also as a disclaimer, I make some extreme generalisations here :( so I apologise on behalf of that too.

So 'generally', vegans make less of a negative impact on the earth than majority of meat-eaters. For example, vegans, as they are not supporting the huge agriculture industry, they are helping reduce (again I say REDUCE) animal cruelty and abuse, pollution, deforestration and global warming. While meat-eaters (generally), although most wouldnt know that they're supporting this, they still end up making more of a negative impact on the Earth than vegans.

So does this make vegans better people than omnivores? Or at least, 'better' in terms of their impacts of the environment?

Again, I'm extremely sorry if I offend anyone. Please try to respond politely, as any rude or trolling answers will be deleted.

  • Why do people write vegan as veg*n or veg'n?

cuz vegans not a swear word or anything, and it wouldn't really offend anyone. i know some people write god as g*d, because not everyone believes in god, but vegan isn't a religion. its a lifestyle choice. does the word vegan offend others so people have to put an asterisk or an apostrophe in place of the a?

  • Why can't we slaughter our cattle in Australia instead of shipping them to Indonesia?

As all aussies know, theres been an outrage of fellows australians knowing about the cruelty indonesia forced on the poor cows in the live cattle export. gouging their eyes, the cruel restraining box, breaking their tails, slashing their legs and tendons... all because the poor cow was terrified and froze and wouldn't move. Can't we just kill the cattle in Australian abattoirs, instead of in Indonesian abattoirs where they don't have animal cruelty laws to protect them? where they are tortured and have to die slowly?Wouldn't it also be cheaper in Aus, cuz then we wouldn't have to make the cows suffer on the trip overseas on a crowded boat, waste fuel, tranport, pollute the ocean... etc? i know the better alternative would be just to not kill them and simply not breed cows any more so they wouldn't have to suffer, but most people don't want to do that because beef tastes nice. *face palm*

also, if we just ban the live export just like that, then the farmers would lose their income (most). if u slaughter the cattle in aus, then they wouldn't lose their income, would they?

  • What would be a good topic for my speech?

It's for a public speaking competition. I want to talk about animals, maybe animal rights or something like that. I'm a pure animal lover, but I don't want to make a speech about convincing people to go vegan or something like that. I feel like people will automatically judge me, if I talk about that, and I know that I shouldn't try and convert others to vegetarianism, esp. when I'm not veggie myself (my parents don't let me >:(... im really upset)

I'm from Australia, so i was thinking I could talk about the live cattle exports to Indonesia, but my public speaking coach said not to only talk about an incident, instead use it as a example. I was also thinking, as I go to a girls private school who is known for talking about feminism, women, women's rights... and stuff like that, I could talk about the way cows are enslaved to give milk just cuz they're women, and link this subject to feminism. or something, idk.

  • Fellow Aussies - have you seen the Indonesian cattle exports?

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them. The cattle were sent into the abattoir and they were tortured, beaten, eye-gouged, limbs and tail broken and whipped when they injured themselves and wouldn't do what the workers wanted them to do. It breaks my heart! They workers left the poor cows to die slowly! they didn't care about them out all! I hate them! why do the workers do such stuff like that? do they not care? why isn't god punishing them?

What is your opinion on this? I've attached a couple of links:

  • Why do ANZAC biscuits have so much butter?

I forgot to make ANZAC biscuits yesterday on Anzac day, so I'm making them today instead. I notice the recipe says 125g of butter, and that's a lot of fat. Of course, I will be using healthy cholestrol free and dairy free butter, but still, why do they have so much butter? What would happen if I reduced it down to 75g? Would it affect the taste?

  • Have you ever eaten meat, dairy or egg only out of politeness?

My friend took me to a restaurant and ordered spicy chicken for a snack because I told him that I liked spicy stuff. He purposely found the only spicy restaurant in the town I lived in. Because I'm not very fluent in the language he speaks, I didn't understand him when he told the waitress for chicken. He must've forgotten that I didn't eat meat. Then it came to the table and it was CLEARLY chicken. Then I felt really bad because he put so much effort into it, (finding the only spicy restaurant in my town, paying quite a bit of cash for the dish, buying a drink so I couldn't relieve myself if it was too spicy...) so I just ate it. Plus, I kinda of liked him so I really didn't want to offend him. And since I couldn't speak his language that well, I couldn't exactly say I didn't eat meat cuz I wouldn't be able to elaborate that much.

Afterwards I felt so bad eating it. I had this heavy feeling in my stomach. Should I've told him that I didn't eat meat? and also, am i the only one that has eaten meat, dairy or egg only out of politeness even though they didn't want any?

  • What are some stylish hair styles?

I'm going into high school and they don't let me wear my usual hairstyle (half up in a ponytail, the rest hanging down). they said we can't have any loose hair or untied hair touching the collar of our uniform.

i was going to put all of my hair in a ponytail, except i have WAY WAY WAY toooooooooooo much hair to put it all in one ponytail. i cant have pigtails either, cuz they make me head look big. what hairstyle should i do without cutting my hair or curling it? it's already naturally straight.

My hair length is 10cm down my shoulder.
