  • What do you think of using gym balls around a dining room table?

What do u think of the idea of gym balls instead of dining room chairs? Fun, unconventional, versatile and inexpensive vs possibly uncomfortable after a long and big meal, and may be very much disliked by older visitors. (Although gym balls seem to be a serious hit with the heavily pregnant crowd in terms of comfort, so maybe they will be ok all the way through a Christmas feast.)

  • What is it that am I feeling when I touch my charging iPhone?

I noticed last night that when my iPhone is plugged in to charge, if I run my finger very gently over the back of its metal cover, it seems to have a very faint, high-frequency vibration. I was lying in bed with the phone on the mattress next to me, and I noticed that by stroking the phone like this, I produce a faint hum. Not stroking the phone stops the hum. Unplugging he phone from the charger stops the vibration. I didn't notice this previously when my phone had a plastic cover. What is this phenomenon?

  • Extremely early pregnancy odour changes - any advice?

Usually I have a distinct vaginal odor throughout the 5 days of my fertile/ovulation period. We are now trying to have a baby, and my husband and I have made sure we had plenty of sex, especially when I got the symptoms of ovulation, including cervical mucus changes. Those symptoms have now lasted for only one day, and my underwear no longer has the distinctive discharge and odor. Is it possible that fertilization could have occurred, and my body is showing changes as early as a day after ovulation? Or am I imagining things? (Needless to say, we are continuing to have daily sex until my next expected menstrual period.)

  • What do people mean when they say they are "trying very hard" to have a baby?

I have had several patients telling me that they have been "trying very hard" to have a baby but are unable to fall pregnant. I have never been able to find out what this means. What are people doing when they are "trying very hard"? Just having sex every day for 3 years or what?

  • The effect of solar storms on gadgets?

Since yesterday, my car remote refused to work despite changing the batteries, the gate remote refused to work and no good reason could be found, my iPhone is suddenly not recognised by my PC and my car radio's clock will not be reset.

There was a major solar flare yesterday, and I was wondering if all these unexplained gadget crashes at once could have something to do with that, or if it was pure unluckyy coincidence?

  • MBTI and management styles?

As an E/INFP, I have taken on the HR role in our clinic, where the facility manager is an STJ type, leading a group of mostly ISFJs. I would like to suggest better management styles to her, as she currently stresses them all out and the staff are getting very passive-aggressive. Any suggestions and ideas?

  • I found what seems to be a tubular jellyfish with no tentacles. Any clues as to what it could be?

They washed up on Glencairn beach (False Bay area, Cape Town) today, in a shoal of a few hundred. They are almost perfectly clear, and have a hard, dark brown lump on one side, almost lie a head. They have an aperture near the "head" (as can be seen in the middle jelly) as well as one on the other side of the body: a bit like a condom with a hole cut in it. There are no external tentacles. I found a cluster of juveniles arranged in a beautiful hexagonal configuration; this fell apart easily when I picked them up; I assume this is because they were dead.

I dissected the "head" of one of the jellies: the brown kernel is surrounded by a very tough layer of collagen-like tissue, and seems seems mostly to be filled with faeces. On dissection of this kernel, there was also a creamy homogenous white substance taking up half to a third of the volume.

At no stage and from no part of the anatomy did the jellyfish hurt me.

I have never seen anything like this, and am dying to know what it is. Please email me directly at orificialgeniemouse@yahoo.co.uk to request pictures if you think you have an idea.

  • What should I do as a Christian woman whose husband wont take on the role as head of the household?

I am so tired of being husband AND wife in this marriage. My husband has been unemployed for 2 years now, and I am the sole breadwinner. Whenever he earns a small amount of cash from consultation work, he spends it on luxuries, not responsibilities, resting in the knowledge (belief) that I will fix things up. All day long he sits at home reading, thinking and doing maths (his passions), while I work to earn money. When I get back, I do the housework, and the repairs to the house, as well as make sure his needs are serviced. I make all the decisions. I am the responsible one who manages our lives. He gives no gifts as he feels bad about using my money to buy them, but also doesn't make something, like hand-picked flowers or a picture or a poem, that would cost nothing, Apart from cooking, and giving me advice on the smart way to think and run my life, he contributes nothing.

Asking nicely causes assurances of change and good intentions, but I have given up on believing him. Nagging is ignored. Explaining why it is important and will make me happy produces no results. Leaving things for him to take responsibility for does nothing. Dust builds up, cockroaches overrun the house, the place falls into disrepair and the finances fall to absolute pieces. I have to do everything, out of sheer necessity.

I am so tired of being everything in this marriage, and I know having children will just break me. I want him to take some sort of responsibility, some sort of lead. Please tell me how I can get my husband to be head of the household. I just want to feel cared-for.

  • Does sex boost or drop immunity?

I'm a medical student and just came back from a tut in which a doc said that sex lowers a woman's immunity, since sperm is a foreign substance and immunity needs to drop in order to allow conception, so that is a reason why one gets sexually transmitted infections worse when you have more sex. I always thought that you get the infections worse cos of increased load of organisms transmitted, and am finding all over the web that orgasm boosts both cellular (thru TH1) and humoral immunity(thru Iga). What is the truth?
