  • Dell problem. 1-3-2 bios beeps, no post. whats wrong?

helped a friend (who is computer illiterate) over the phone install a second hard drive. I think she plugged the sata cable into the wrong place. once installed, the monitor doesn't receive any signals, and the computer beeps a code of 1-3-2, which according to dell is a ram issue, which doesn't make sense. The beeps continue even when wiring is returned to stock setup.any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or what the issue is?

  • Where can I buy electronic components in Canada?

Don't say the Source, they are over priced and have nothing. Shipping from the States is ridiculous. I need some transistors, capacitors and a couple ic's.

  • What kind of snake is this?

I went for a walk today a little before sunset. I found and startled a snake that was about 2 and a half feet long that was mostly white(cream) and had small unregular spoting on it. Here is a pick of the underbelly of a snake that looks like the coloration of the snake I saw http://www.snakesandfrogs.com/scra/snakes/images/b... the part near the head of the snake in the pic, where it is white and black splotched is what this whole snake looked like. It scared the poo out of me btw cause i thought it was a piece of rope until it bolted.

  • Want to learn to weld.. mig or arc?

my car needs a new exhaust system and a little body work. i have always wanted to learn to weld so I figure this might be my chance. i want a mig welder, but they are much more expensive and use shielding gas which i would have to buy along with renting a bottle (i asume) An Arc welder is much cheaper, uses no gas, but looks to be sloppier, and maybe unfit for body work? Which should i buy? With some practice on some scrap and internet tutorals, will i be able to teach myself? Keep in mind i am not welding pressure vessls, or bridges. exhaust pipe, maybe a trailer or frame one day.

  • homemade plexiglass hood?

In an effort to save gas, I want to lighten my car. The hood is a large heavy sheet of metal. My question is, if i cut out and form a new hood for my car using plexiglass, would something bad happen? For instance, i know the hood does not add structural support, but is it important for head on crashes? Would heat in the engine compartment be hot enough to melt the plastic? What do you think? Carbon fiber is WAY to expensive so don't suggest it

  • If I change from windows to linux hosting, will my site still work?

I use linux on my laptop and desktop. I am a webmaster for a local business, but their site was on a windows hosting account before I was the webmaster. I would like to use .php and mysql on the site which would give me the ability to do all kinds of cool things with it. The site currently is only html and flash, so asp databases or anything. If I have my host switch the site to linux servers, will the site go unchanged or will it get all messed up?

  • Manual transmission shfting hard. Whats up?

If I shift nice and slow, all is well. If I shift faster however, it no longer slips into gear, but it goes in when a crunch like feeling. Gears are not grinding, but as I am shifting into gear it gets to a point where it resists back and then crunches into gear. The more force i use to try and shirt the more resistance and the bigger the crunch. If I force hard enough, the car will shutter a bit when shift into gear. Its been doing this for maybe 20,000 miles, but like i said, shifting slow and easy presents no problem. Only with i try to shift faster and more forcefully does it act up. One other thing, If I slowly shift part way into gear and then push it back to neutral, sometimes the gears will grind a bit and kick it the rest of the way out of gear. The clutch has about 60,000 on it and I'm not sure they replaced the throwout bearing with the clutch, 60,000 miles ago, if that helps any. its a 91 toyota celica by the way. What are some possible problems

  • Am I being ripped off?

My wife was in an accident.. no one was hurt. Took the car to the dealer to have it fixed. A tie rod was very visablly bent. The insurance claims adjuster called and said the dealer performed two alignments and said that I should fight it. he said because the wheel was visibly bent inward and the tie rod was very visibly bent, the dealer should not have performed the first alignment in order to troubleshoot the problem in the suspension. He said it was obvious where the problem was (bent tie rod) and so I should only pay for the last alignment, once the tie rod was replaced. Should I fight the dealer on over charging me 90 bucks for the first supposedly unnecessary alignment? Was the first alignment necessary to fix the problem? The insurance is one going to cover one alignment.

  • 5 amp, ignition off battery draw. What gives?

I've pulled every fuse, one at a time, and even disconnected the alternator and there is still a 5 amp draw on the battery. The battery negative is disconnected and then i connect my amp meter between the battery and the cable. Does the ECU draw high current for a period of time when the battery is reconnected? What could be going on? I'm tired of having dead batteries.

  • How to detect if their is a load on your battery after turning engine off?

My car has been having bad battery problems. Battery died, so I replaced it. Turned out the alternator was bad too, so i replaced that as well, about a week later. Now the new battery won't stay charged for more than 3 days if i don't run the car and i know the alternator is good. How do I check to the draw on the battery after the car has been turned of? I'm thinking there might be a short somewhere.. a short that is small enough to draw current, but not blow a fuse.

  • website for political noobs?

I hate politics. everyone points fingers and promises the world. But i need to be realistic and understand what is going on. Is there a website that gives a bio of each of the canidates still running, along with a list of their promises? I would liek to be better informed without spending hours chasing down reliable information.

  • new laptop battery won't charge?

A friend of mine, a student, is from Tanzania, Africa. She just bought a new dell laptop 4 months ago. She went home over Christmas. The standard voltage there is 240v, a voltage that the laptop's power supply claims to be able to handle. The day she got back to the States, she noticed that the battery holds no charge, and will not charge no matter how long it is plugged in. The power supply obviously works because the computer only runs when it is connected. But The computer immediately shuts down when it is unplugged. Is the battery fried? Could it be the charging circuitry on the motherboard? She graduates this spring and goes back home, so she needs to figure out how it is she can use her laptop back in Tanzania.

my wife got a flat. i didn't have time to mess with it so i took it to a tire place. they told me they couldn't find anything wrong. So aired it up put it back on the car. My wife drove it to work the next morning, called said it was flat again. I found a puncture and patched it. trouble is, she drove to work with the tire almost flat. the side wall and has small crack all the way around. no missing rubber chunks, no visible belts, just a hair line crack. the tires will need replaced in spring, and with Christmas here i'd hate to have to buy a new set now. I also don't want to by one new tire then three more in 6 months. will the tire be ok or is it too dangers to risk?
