Replacing iron sights on Marlin 795 .22 LR
I removed the rear sight (bubba-style) from my Marlin 795 rifle to make room for a scope. Now the scope is all kinds of screwed up and I'm fed up with it losing its zero every time I take it to the range.
So I want to switch back to iron sights--scopes are not an option. Problem is, as of now there is only a front sight on the rifle: hardly an ideal targeting system.
Is there somewhere I should go to get the rear sight replaced, or does anyone know of any good aftermarket aperture/peep sights for the Marlin 795 rifle?
Thanks
2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoStickers in weeds and bushes.?
In Northern California, we've got these fields full of dry weeds. These weeds, including the African Star Thistle, release these sticky, sharp, and obnoxious stickers into my shoes, socks, and other clothing, and when they build up, it can become quite painful to continue walking before spending a long time to pick these out.
Are there any clothes or shoes that resist and/or repel these stickers?
2 AnswersOther - Outdoor Recreation1 decade agoWould installing a scope to my Marlin 795 be practical?
I have this light and easy handling .22 rifle. It's a semiautomatic rifle that I ended up paying around $125 total for. It comes with standard rifle sights, and it's not drilled or tapped for scope mounts...
But I was wondering, how much do you think it would cost to get an entry level scope installed on the rifle, and do you think it would be practical for the price?
Thanks!

Which one would you pick?
13 AnswersHunting1 decade agoDoes Big 5 ever sell .308 Rifles?
I was in Big 5 the other day, and they had hunting rifles in all the usual calibers: .30-06, .270, .243, 7mm, etc. But they didn't have anything chambered in .308 Winchester. I asked the sales clerk and he just said they didn't carry .308 rifles.
Does anyone know if this is a company-wide policy (or could it just be an isolated incident to this store)? I also went to Sports Authority and it was the same deal. If it helps, I live in California. Thanks.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoAmmunition Prices Going Up?
I've talked to a couple people in gun shops and read an article that ammo prices are going up because of increased military demand and a growing lack of resources used to make ammo.
Now, last I checked, ammo uses lead, copper, and brass. If there were a shortage of these materials, then plumbers would be up in arms. Is this actually a problem?
Also, I heard that the supply of Military Surplus ammo is starting to dry up. Is this true?
8 AnswersHunting1 decade agoShould the U.S. leave the UN?
I for one am tired of the U.N. pushing America around. There is a worldwide movement supported by the UN to ban civilian ownership of firearms, censor the internet, and generally restrict the freedoms of people around the world, including America.
Americans, are you willing to allow the UN to drag you down to the lowest common denominator, stripping you of your rights and freedoms? Remember, most of the UN members are socialist, communist, or dictorship countries.
What do you think? Should America remain in the UN or should it leave, and withdraw its funding?
19 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoDoes anyone know the rules of ancient Greek boxing?
I heard that the ancient Greeks were among the first to particpate in boxing for sport in the ancient Olympics, and that it was bareknuckle.
Does anyone know what was and wasn't allowed? Could they kick? Fight in a clinch? Was there a count of 10 or did the match last until someone went unconcious?
2 AnswersBoxing1 decade agoWhat is the advantage of a pistol grip and full stock on a shotgun?
I've seen these conversion kits for shotguns that replace the butt of the gun with a another butt that has a pitsol grip below. So it's still shoulder-mounted, but you grip the pistol grip instead of the beginng of the butt. Is there any advantage of this? Here is an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.popguns.com/shotgunaccessories/atitacti...
9 AnswersHunting1 decade agoIf you were in a post-apocolyptic world, and you could have any ONE gun, what would it be?
You can be specific as to the model (Example: Winchester 94 in 30-30), but it's fine if you just say the type and caliber (Example: .357 revolver). Any gun you want with any accesories, price is no issue, but it has to be an actual smallarm (Example: handgun, machine pistol, assualt rifle, hunting/precision rifle, or shotgun). In this scenario, you are alone and don't know what to expect. You have practically limitless ammunition.
Just curious! Think about versatility and portability! This is for all you gun buffs out there!
25 AnswersHunting1 decade agoCould a single human armed with a chainsaw conceivably battle a wooly mammoth face to face and win?
My friends and I have been having a very long debate over whether or not it is possible for a highly athletic and agile man armed with a high powered chainsaw to cut down a fully grown, fully aggressive prehistoric woolly mammoth in single combat.
My friends all say no, that the mammoth would simply trample the man or gore him, but I beleive that if the man was clever, and continued to outmanuver the mammoth, he would prevail, because he could stay on the beasts' flanks, out of range of the tusks and trunk, and with his chainsaw, he could sever the mammoth's tendons in its legs.
Doing this would cripple the mammoths' legs, and remove its mobility, in which case it would be a simple manner to approach the wounded mammoth from behind and deliver a coup de grace with the saw.
So, what do you think? Could the man succeed in his cunning plan, or would he be no match for the woolly mammoth's might, and be obliterated in the proccess?
13 AnswersBiology1 decade agoWhich would be your course of action?
Here's the situation:
You are by yourself in a very bad area in a city. It's a moonless night. Your car broke down in the worst possible place and your cell phone is dead. The streetlights are almost nonexistant. Suddenly, you spot a gang of 3 men dressed in dirty, baggy clothing of the same color and at least one is holding a revolver. They are looking around nervously. You ducked into an abonded warehouse just before you were spotted.
Inside, there is junk everywhere and the floor is littered with trash and ciggerette butts. Grafitti and odd stains cover the walls. On a table there is:
A 5lb crowbar
A chef knife with rust stains and a 10" blade
A dirty, greasy revolver, with a taped handle and two .38 rounds
On the wall there is a fire extinguisher covered in spider webs.
You hear low voices and scuffling footsteps approach from outside. It can only be them, and it looks like you discovered their hideout. You have but seconds to act.
What would you do?
