Still wondering why the US invaded Iraq?
The CBC's Fifth Estate did a documentary on the subject. It's available online here:
I'm wondering what Americans would think of these ideas. Is it ok with all of you that your government deceives you in this way?
What's your view?
13 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoHow do you get MS Word to always save with smallest possible file size?
Many times a day I make MS Word files from large text files which I then format to fit pages properly then email to whoever.
The problem is that when I first save as a .doc the resulting file will be say, 2MB in size which is a very large file to email.
I have found that if I then re-open the .doc file and edit it (add and delete exactly one space, just to make it count as modified) then save it again, the file size drops by around half - 1MB.
Why do I have to go through this step? Is there a way to make it save with the smallest size the first time? The option 'allow fast saves' is NOT checked and I can't see any other relevant options.
4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoGrep and egrep. Does anything do what both of these do?
I use grep and egrep countless times daily but once in awhile I come up with a problem that grep can do part of and egrep can do the other part but neither can do both.
Maybe I just need the syntax?
I have a file with 3 digit codes something like this:
001003009000000000
002004008997999000
... etc etc
I want to find lines with the same code repeated so:
grep '00\([0-9]\).*00\1'
will find it but not necessarily in the correct format. E.g. it will incorrectly identify '001030010' even though the codes are 1, 30 and 10.
I would like to use: grep '00\([0-9]\)\(...\)*00\1'
but the wildcard does not apply to groups in grep. And egrep cannot backreference a match in the form \n.
How can it be done?
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoWhy do people think global warming is a scam?
Alot of people think that over 100 countries and 1000's of scientists are in on a conspiracy - perpetuating this idea so that we will be able to purchase some solution - a scam similar to that of the 'Y2K bug'.
All that's being suggested is a reduction of emissions, that is: REDUCE what we consume and since consumption costs us money, it also means to spend less. What kind of idiot thinks this is a scam? Please explain.

That irritates me HUGELY but I'm not sure it's a violation.

14 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoLeeroy Jenkins: funny or not funny? And have ever played a MMORPG?
I just saw this video for the first time today and it was about the funniest video I've ever seen on the internet.
I'm just curious if this is funny or not funny depending on whether you have played a massively-multiplayer game or not. I played Star Wars Galaxies for a year or so.
Just google "leeroy jenkins" to find the video, it's everywhere.

7 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWho really cares if my email is in my profile? Why would I do that?
I love it when somebody gets REALLY upset at my answer and they say "That darn coward scruffy doesn't post his email address in his profile - that coward!"
I get enough drivel and spam every day in my mailbox and I know how many STUPID people there are out there with nothing better to do than send hate messages to people with opposing views in Y!A. Why would anyone want to waste their time with that?
Sticks and stones, people. You don't like what i say? Too bad!! Just understand that I truly enjoy your frustration.
Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukka!
2 AnswersUser Profiles1 decade agoTough cable Internet connection problem?
This computer can't connect to the ISP. (Windows XP, Rogers cable Internet) but other computers can.
The network card works. If I assign it's IP manually, it can exist perfectly on a LAN. Pings and file transfers work fine.
But if I have it obtain its IP and DNS info automatically and try to connect, it gets that default IP 169.etc.etc. (can't remember exactly, but you know what I mean) and it reports "Limited or no connectivity".
I even added a NEW network card and got the exact same results.
I have removed/disabled ALL firewalls, Norton is gone.
The Internet did work fine up until one day it would no longer connect to the Internet. No software/hardware changes or moves took place.
If I try to boot into "safe mode with networking", it halts on the line that says C:\{Some path I can't remember}\mup and waits about a minute until it reboots itself. Not sure if this part is helpful.
This is a very difficult problem to Google so any help or ideas is appreciated
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoHow do you spell 'Loser'?
This must be the most misspelled (I admit, I googled that to make sure it was right...) word on the Internet today. What is it about this word that makes everybody and their cat spell it wrong?
Looser isn't even pronounced the same... god!!
K, I'm through ranting... whew!
9 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoWhat happened to acts of war starting wars?
The US and its cohorts rush to stamp out any possibility of any country gaining the means to war. Japan considers a pre-emptive strike on North Korea just because it's about to develop ICBM technology. Sure, these developments make the rest of us uneasy but is this action right?
It used to be we declared war when an act of war was perpetrated against us. Why now is it ok to invade or declare war when someone just gains the means? Isn't that sort of like laying an assault charge on someone for buying a weapon?

Put the URL in your sources and shut the F up. Nobody wants to scroll through 10 pages of crap you couldn't be bothered to write yourself.

6 AnswersJokes & Riddles2 decades agoWhat's the difference between scamming the senile and using clever marketing to sell products nobody needs?
(almost) Everybody hates people who take advantage of the elderly who are unable to see that they are being scammed. Why is it acceptable to use advertising and marketing to do the same thing to more mentally capable people? If someone could explain the difference that would be sweet.
