  • Activated my capital one platinum mastercard, they asked for a lot of info.?

Is it normal procedure for Capital One to ask for your name, last 4 SSN, address, DOB... pretty much everything in order for them to activate your card? I've had 2 other cards with other banks and they never asked for this much info.

  • Robot not working to simulate mouseclicks in Java?

I'm trying to automate something which involves a lot of precise clicking. The target program seems to eat up control of the mouse though - the instant I do a Robot.mousePress into the program (and thereby giving it focus) I can't do anything else via Robot. Subsequent calls to mouseRelease, mouseMove, etc. do nothing. Is there another, more priviledged/native/whatever way to do mouse clicking and stuff? Is there a way to have my java program keep control of the mouse even if the other program is in focus?

  • Why aren't secondary rays needed in voxel ray casting?

I just read an article on voxels and ray casting. It said that a big advantage ray casting with voxels has over ray tracing is that secondary rays don't need to be cast. Why is this? How are lighting and reflections calculated then?

  • Go for a quad core now or wait?

I'm planning to upgrade my CPU/motherboard in the summer. Should I wait until AMD or Intel comes out with newer offerings (6 or 8 core CPUs) or just go for a quad core now? Does anyone have details on when Intel and AMD are gonna come out with new CPUs?

Also, as a side question, are the nehalems really that much better than the phenoms to justify the enormous difference in price? Here I have a 2.66GHz Core i7 for $288, and a 3.2GHz Phenom II for less than that.

  • Posting data using XMLHttpRequest?

Does anyone know how to post data containing non-escapable characters via the send method of a XMLHttpRequest object? All the examples I've been able to find simply send a request string (the url with just the request parameters stripped out). I want to send "actual data" - stuff that contains, say, equal signs, ampersands, and non-printable characters.

The documentation says that send accepts either a DOMString or a Document - I don't know what a Document is, but perhaps that's a starting point?...

  • How do soda machines work?

I'm talking about the kind at fast food resturants that you use to fill up your cup. I've always wondered since I thought there couldn't be possibly enough space back there to store all the soda in soda form; plus I never see anyone refilling them. Do they use some sort of concentrated powder/liquid and mix it with carbonated water when you want the soda? Or is that thinking too much; they simply store the soda in tanks?

  • Azurues basically freezes?

I've got about 30 torrents running in Azurues (7 active at a time), they're all single file torrents, and Azurues is getting owned. Right now, it won't even start up without freezing (and not unfreezing). Is this some sort of known problem - Azurues scales extremely badly as you increase the number of active torrents, and is there some sort of fix?

  • Is there a reason RAID cards cost so much?

I've just been browsing around on newegg for fun, and looking at the RAID controllers, some of them go into the thousands of dollars. Is there a reason for that? Are they really that much better than integrated RAID controllers on practically all motherboards these days?

  • What makes the staticy sounds in CRTs?

Always wondered this. When you turn them on and off, there's always some staticy sounds. I always assumed it was the high voltages discharging or something but anyone have a clear answer on this?

  • How to replace the razor's rear brake?

I've got one, been riding it around college for about a year, and now the rear fender brake actually is wearing completely through. Is there a way to remove and replace the brake? If not I'll have to transfer all the 'custom' parts to another body; I would rather jack the brake off another razor I have lying around.

  • California Drivers lisence restirctions?

OK, if I pass the driving test and get my lisencse before I am 18, I can't drive anyone under 20 alone or drive during 11-5 without adult for 12 months. Do these restrictions still apply once I turn 18, but the 12 months are not up yet? (example, pass test and get license a few days before 18th birthday. Do the restictions still apply after I am 18?)

  • down the street or across the street.....?

Ok, neither me nor my friend have ANY intention of killing ourselves. How we got on this topic, I have no idea. Anyways, try not to encourage us not to kill ourselves, becasue we don't want to anyways. Try not to do the opposite either...

So, which way is a more effective way to commit suicide, slitting across your wrist (across the street) or slitting down your arm (down the street)?
