  • Is there a keyboard shortcut for "go to first" or "return to beginning"?

sometimes (actually, frequently) when operating my computer the cursor/selector returns all the way to the beginning of the selection. For instance, when i'm typing a message or document, the cursor will randomly go all the way back to the very beginning. When I view websites that allow you to scroll down, the page will revert back to the top. when I select a file on my desktop, the highlight jumps up to the icon on the upper left.

I strongly suspect that this is due ot my malfunctioning laptop keyboard that i spilled soda on a while back. I've been using a plug-in keyboard with no problem until recently. I was wondering if there was some keyboard command my keyboard was brokenly hitting that would cause this problem.

    Thanks!

  • Help removing the background of a picture in photoshop?

So I've been struggling to remove the background from pictures in photoshop. I've followed tutorials in which I use various tools like quick select, lasso, etc to select the whole thing, then click delete. However, when I press delete the background simply turns into black white rather than going away and leaving that checkerboard pattern.

For instance, lets say I have a blue circle on a solid red background, and I want to grab the blue circle (and only the blue circle) for another picture. So I quickly grab the circle with quick select, then use the 'select inverse' tool to grab the background instead. I delete the background, but it doesn't leave me with just the blue circle... it gives me the circle on a blank background, so when I try to move it to another picture it brings the circle along with a white square around it.

How can I fix this so that I can grab JUST the blue circle pictures?

Thanks so much, will quickly Best Answer the first to help :)

  • What are some examples in pop culture that encourage people to give up their morals and values?

    Hey again Yanswers,

I'm doing an article about examples in pop culture that seem cute and relatively harmless but subliminally encourage people to give up their traditionally held values

One example is the movie Grease, where the female character (I forget her name) finally finds happiness and acceptance when she gives in to peer pressure and puts out.

Another example is Billy Joel's song "Only the Good Die Young" where he asks Virginia to give up her virginity and hang out with the cool crowd (I'm sensing a theme here...)

I'm not necessarily saying the characters' decisions here are good or bad, I'm just looking for examples. Specifically, I'm looking for once that are playful and cutesy (like the examples I provided). More songs and movies are great, and I'd really love a good book example.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'll post editions and clarifications as needed.

  • Are all those fuel additives offered at gas stations worth the expense?

I see these kinds of things a lot. A common one is the Techron at Chevron, but I also see them at the WalMart gas stations and elsewhere. I'm just wondering what values they have, and whether they live up to their claims. Also, if any are worth getting, which are the best value?

  • diarrhoea in India for two weeks?

    Hello Yanswerers,

I'm staying in India over the summer. I arrived a little over three weeks ago from the u.s.. For the first week and a half or so, I didn't really have any digestion problems, just the occasional sore stomach.

however, a couple weeks ago I started have diarrhoea, exclusively. it hasn't been a huge problem, I just go whenever I get a chance.

It doesn't hurt, and I haven't experienced any particular weakness or illness. I did miss one day of work a week ago because i felt so crappy (no pun intended) but since then I've been ok.

I haven't really had any stomach problems except, again, for the occasional pain when I eat something a little spicy. I just haven't had a good solid poop in a while, and it's gotten me a little worried.

the food i eat is tasty and generally pretty clean for india standards. I was just wondering if this is somewhat normal behaviour and my body will eventually adjust to the food.

If it's something i need to look into, is there some kind of medication or something I can take? I'd really rather not visit a doctor or go to the hospital, I've heard it's a real pain around here.

Thanks ahead of time for any and all advice :)

I just secured a job writing articles for a web site in India for this summer. I need to know what steps I should follow to secure a VISA or whatever. I'm 20 years old and a college student in the USA. I already have a passport and I can take care of the traveling stuff myself. Thanks ahead of time!

  • where can i get a good, reasonably priced cable modem, and can i install it myself?

i'm about to sign up for charter high speed internet but i'd rather not lease a modem from them and it costs 50 bucks to have someone come install it for me so i'd rather not do that either. also, i want to do this fairly quick so i'd rather just go to a store than buy a router online, even if it's a bit more expensive

  • What's a good ol' legend/myth-style love story?

I'm talking old as in like ancient naive american lore, or something passed down over generations in Africa or something like that. Ideally, i'm looking for links to websites that have these stories in full but if you want to type it up that might be ok too. I'm also trying to avoid old greek legends and also those from the Far East, but if you have a really good one from there i might be able to use it. thanks!

  • what should i write about for my next journalism term paper?

I'm taking an American Newspapers course and my professor makes us write 3 term papers over the course of the semester. The papers can be on almost any topic, from ethical to economical to innovative. For instance, for my last two papers I focused on how USA Today could improve it's Life section on the first and for the second I proposed that newspapers could use video games on their websites to inform, entertain, and keep readers their longer to get more advertisement money. The sky's the limit as long as the idea is legitamate and not too cliche (nothing lame like "The Times vs USA Today" or "should journalists publish rape victims' names?") and proposed well. I was hoping you guys could give me some inspiration

  • how can i easily and cheaply dress like an interesting and fun ethnicity/culture?

I'm attending an event tonight called the "Glo-ball," where people are encouraged to wear clothing from different parts of the world (such as kimonos, turbans, kilts...). I procrastinated and don't have anything laying around, and am a poor college boy so my resources are a little limited. I don'ty really care what culture i represent i know friends are going with clothes from asia, latin america, africa and the middle east so pretty much anything is open (i've even considered going in a loincloth lol). thanks a ton!

  • what's the term describing a language where every letter makes its own distinct sound?

i can't remember but there's a word for it. for instance, English, where almost every letter can make more than one sound, would not be this. but Spanish, where each letter of the alphabet makes a constant, distinct sound, is.

  • besides in-conference sec games, what ncaa games do i have to look forward to this season?

so after usc-osu was a total flop, it looks like all i have left to get excited about are in-conference sec games (ga vs fl vs auburn vs lsu vs bama vs (dare i say it?) vandy) put any of these teams against each other and you have a game worth watching, at least from this point in the season. what are some other games i should watch out for to get my entertainment?

  • was this the most boring college football weekend ever?

hardly only real upsets (ok az state but that's only 1). everyone who was supposed to win, did, and it often wasn't even a close game. the most anticipated game of the season was an unexciting blowout. oh, and in the auburn game a whopping 5 points are scored, TOTAL. zzz come on lets see some football worth watching already!

  • which presidential candidate would best handle the situation in georgia?

take into account things like overall experience, ability to take a stand, decision making skills, ability to deal with a quickly changing situation. ability to convince the country and world he made the right decision, etc. i'm especially interested in how each candidate would handle russia. who would best make peace, at any cost? who would help negotiate a treaty best? which, if either, would go to war if military action were ever called for? which would best stand up to russia if need came, and which would know when it was time to stand down and let things run their course?
