  • Coaster Brake Hub Problem!?

Hello everybody, I have a 70's folding bike with a Sachs coaster brake that stopped working, and instead will just lock or hop almost as your trying to brake. I was going to just try and take it apart but there aren't any hex nuts or grooves for a wrench on either side. There are two indentations on the brake arm side of the hub where I presume you could use a spanner but man, that might suck trying to use one.

Once I do figure out how to dismantle it, would just regreasing the hub be enough? Or does it sound like there could be permanent damage? Any ideas or insight are appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Where can someone find bicycle frames straight from a manufacturer?

Me and a friend are hoping to start building a few custom urban bicycles this summer but we can't find decent unpainted frames anywhere online (besides Chinese frames...). Does anyone know where to look for frames built in Taiwan or Japan, that aren't badged? Oh and if anyone knows of an American manufacturer that would be even better. I guess we could always buy a frame and sand blast it, but I would feel kind of dishonest about that unless I added some kind of badging to give homage. lol

If anyone has any ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Can a belt drive be used on an older motorcycle?

I have a 1982 Honda CM450A. I'm going to need a new chain as well as both cogs soon anyway and I really want to keep the bike much longer since the engine and transmission are in immaculate shape. Is it possible to buy belt drive components for an older bike? Or is the idea just crazy? lol

  • What is the value of this bicycle? (roughly of course)?

I have a custom fixed gear track bike that I'm thinking of selling because I've just lost interest in it.

It has a steel giant frame with racing geometry painted matte green

A new carbon fiber front fork

new front wheel (basic track wheel, costed about $150)

    newish front brake

new front tire from kenda, back tire is getting old kenda

drive train is mostly bontrager I think, with racing cranks, decent condition still

I was thinking to sell it for $500, because there is at least demand for these bikes where I'm from, Madison, WI

    What do you guys think?

  • Why doesn't the United States have diesel Hondas?

So I was over in Frankfurt recently and got a ride from a friend I have there from an exchange program I had in highschool. He rolls up with this BADASS looking Honda Civic and when I get in I notice the redline is at 4,500rpm, so naturally I ask what the hell is up with that. He tells me it's a diesel so I crap my pants.

If Honda wants to have frugal awesome cars, why not just import the Euro Spec edition? It looks 10 times better than our civic anyway...

And this is what the thing looks like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxPAM9Lggfk&feature...

  • Subwoofer vs Amp (I'm confused)?

So I'm building a portable mono sound system with a 10" sub I bought. I'm trying to find the right amp to use, and I found a bareboard I'd like to use that has an output of 2x100 that I'm going to mix together down the line, so there'll probably be 200 watts going to the sub.

The subwoofer has two maximum power ratings however, first it says 300 (watts PEAK) and the second is 150 (watts RMS). What does that mean? And could it handle a 200 watt input?

I hope this question makes sense... I appreciate your answers!

  • Does a 450cc motorcycle need back-pressure? And if so, how do I know how much to give it?

I have a 1982 Honda CM450A Hondamatic which for some reason has an after-market 2 into 1 exhaust system from the previous owner. The muffler sounded horrible, so when I opened it up, I found that the baffles had just rusted out and were vibrating, and shifting around, so I cut them out and left on the end cap for the muffler (which is a cone type muffler). It's louder now (not too bad though) and sounds slightly better, but I like it without the end cap a lot more because it has a much fuller sound.

Does the engine need this back pressure though? I'm afraid of messing it up.

Also, I was thinking about fabbing up some cafe styled straight pipes, but idk if it'd be good for the motor.

    Thanks for your answers!

  • Building a bicycle trailer w/ stereo! What do I need a decent sound system that doesn't cost too much?

Weight isn't all too much an issue, but power consumption is. I'll be using a standard car battery probably =P

  • I want to build a mobile stereo with a subwoofer. What do I need? =D?

I'm thinking about a 2 channel car amplifier, but idk if that means I can only use two speakers...

I'll also be running this with a car battery. So if anyone has any ideas about a good long lasting/reliable car battery.

  • Studying abroad in the Netherlands, anyway to get my cell phone to work over there?

I have a Droid 2 that I feel bad to give up, so it'd be awesome if there was a way to get a Verizon smart phone 3G to work on the European network.

    Thanks!

  • Taking the train from Utrecht, Netherlands to Stockholm, Sweden?

So next year I'm going to be studying abroad in Utrecht while my girlfriend will be studying abroad in Stockholm. I've used trains in Europe a lot before, mostly in Austria and Germany, but I'm just curious if I'd be better off taking the train or just getting a plane ticket...

  • What kind of drivetrain is this?

    http://www.rei.com/product/800447

So I was just looking at bikes for fun when I noticed that this bike doesn't have a chain, but rather a spring-like drivetrain. What is this? I've never seen it before!

  • How much do you think my sitar is worth?

It was imported in 1969, the strings are now almost completely shot, and the condition isn't bad, just some minor cosmetic things are missing. I bought it for $200 a few years ago and now I just don't see a reason to keep it around.

    Any opinions?

  • Studying in Germany: Is it legal to take my bike over there?

I'll be studying in Freiburg, Germany, and I was hoping to be able to take my bike over with me. My only concern is whether or not I need some license of some kind to do so. (I have a driver's and motorcycle license here, if that matters).

Also, my bike is a fixed gear bike with a front brake - just for emergencies. I've heard a lot about the German Police busting people with fixies because they don't have brakes, but mine has a front one, so I don't know if that is enough.

    Thanks!

  • Do I need a new chain? =(?

So I just cleaned and readjusted the chain tension on my fixed gear probably about a month ago or around 100 - 150 miles ago. The chain was pretty crusty after a full winter of riding, but after cleaning it seemed fine. Well now it's stretched out again to the point where there is a very noticeable jerkiness between speeding up and slowing down.

Should I just keep resetting the tension? Or get a new chain? I have kept it very well lubed this entire time. =P
