I recently completed my Honours degree in psychology, and am beginning my doctoral degree in Sydney this year. I am also interested in cosmology, science fiction, and board games, among many other things.
Yesterday I received 2 SMS from an unknown number that each said, "message cannot be displayed here".
Any ideas what this really means? Is it some sort of scam that tries to trick you into calling the number? I read today that some companies call mobile phone numbers and immediately hang up. If the person calls back they hear a recorded message that they have won a prize and are directed to call a premium rate number. If they call, they are kept waiting for a few minutesto increase the call costs. Does anyone know if the message I received is something similar, or is it just some bizarre error message? I did not call the number back, as it was unknown to me.
5 AnswersCell Phones & Plans2 decades agoIs it really possible to rob a bank by hypnotising the teller? If so, I want to know how!?
For scientific reasons of course (*ahem*). According to a story I read in a reputable newspaper last year, there was a Russian guy who actually robbed 4 banks in Moldova by hypnotising the tellers and commanding them to hand over loot! I always thought this was impossible and such things only happened in movies, but I could be wrong. Was this believe-it-or-not story on the level or a way out hoax? Did the tellers conspire with the "hypnotist"? I'd really like to know!

Many people argue that handguns provide an effective form of self-defense and deter criminals. What's your opinion?
2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture2 decades agoIf you had God's powers for one day how would you use them?
Would you use your new powers for personal gain (like that guy in "Bruce Almighty") or would you try to make the world a better place? Come on, be honest! Would you use your powers for evil!? Would it make a difference if you were held accountable for your actions after your time was up? Please give a specific example.
15 AnswersPhilosophy2 decades agoWhy does Japan still have a 1 Yen coin?
1 Yen is worth about 1 cent Australian, so it can't really buy anything. In Australia, the mint stopped making 1 & 2 cent coins in 1990, because they don't have any practical value anymore. While I was on holiday in Japan I was given some 1 Yen coins in my change. I didn't know what to do with them, so I gave one to a busker when I got back home as a joke and kept the other as a souvenir. I was wondering why the Japanese still use them. Are they supposed to be lucky or something?
