  • How to set up a yahoo account, both visual and hearing impaired?

My friend does not use the phone and has neither cell phone nor land line, his monitor is currently a 32" flat screen. He has tried numerous times to set up the account but it keeps asking for a phone number. He says and I see his point that there is no point in having a password if the only way he can retrieve it is to have someone else do it for him. SO is there still a way he can register his account?

  • What is with having to hit select all to access my inbox for the new yahoo mail?

I used to be able to go through my email even with over 200 items in my inbox delete, read and sort into files to br read later in less than 30 minutes. Now with less than 75 items it can take over an hour and a half. It is like every time I get competent with some element someone decides to institute some totally pointless change to make things more complicated for no decernable reason. Whatever happened to "user ftiendly"?

  • No sound after XP SP3 reinstall - remedies?

I have 2 desk top PC a dell Dimension 8110 2.3 GHz 2GB RAM emachines T2240 2.2GHz 2GB Ram. Was told W7 would run on them. It did but the graphics were lousy and response slow. I was then told that to upgrade to a point where they would handle the requirements tollerably I would need new motherboards and processors. Since I am in the process of having a new machine built this is not an option. So I had XP reinstalled with no changes in hardware but now I get the following message: "No sound device detected." I have tried downloading from Microsoft and every source for codex I could find including Real Player, VLC and iVid. I am open to suggestions

  • Why are search engines allowing phony surveys that have no opt out buttons and block access to the sites?

Having given the matter a bit more thought I have decided that the surfer is not the only one who is being shafted by this practice since the web site owner is also losing out as the message (Fine print disclaimers aside often is worded to appear as if it were connected with the web site it is blocking.} Prospective or even current clientele may give up in frustration and go elsewhere or if as I have experienced recently, the site offers technical support or information they may lose good will for their product and potential customers. So if you are an owner who is being hijacked go complain to your host because you at least should have some enforceable remedy in your contract.

  • Why are web sites allowing these stupid surveys that have no opt out buttons and block access to the sites.?

Lately I have noticed that almost any site I have tried to reach including this one has been plagued by these phony consumer surveys which are nothing more than bait and switch frauds truing to get me to purchase things I have neither need or desire, in order to qualify for some prize that the opening statement told me I had already won, or that they would like me to complete some anonymous survey in order to win some prize. My question here being if said survey is anonymous how are they to know where to send the winner's prize? There is usually no contact information and I don't believe many of the actual sites know that they are being hijacked but the search engines who allow such practices know that they are there and I would presume they are making money from them. Since I have to pay for my internet access I feel I am being robbed of both my time and money! So where do I send my protest to the search engines as I have tried sending them email customerservice@anysearchengineyou choose.com and all come back as undeliverable.

  • Is there any place to install a Japanese language pack that Windows and my antivirus won't block?

I visit a lot of Asian web sites all of which tell me to download a Japanese language pack. Everytime I attempt to do so my system blocks the attempt. Is there any place where I can find an acceptable Japanese language pack that will actually work with these sites and not give windows a nervous breakdown?

  • What is it about tree hugger communities, why do they attract nutcases?

Look at areas where these mass murders occur and with the exception of Ft Hood (fondly referred to as God's revenge on the army). To me they all seem like touchy-feely, artsy-craftsy communities, places where the perps wanted to belong but just couldn't fit. In the case of the Fort Hood shooter I have a distinct impression that if we get the truth, it will come out that his superiors took a touchy-feely approach to dealing with him because of his religion over looking things that would have gotten a protestant, catholic or jew written up or court-marshaled. Instead they in the name of cultural sensitivity and diversity overlooked these things and were rewarded with with 13 flag draped coffins.

  • The Library of Congress keeps printed materials is there a section that keeps a listing of vinyl recordings?

Having gone about this several different ways with 0 success I think I shall try from another angle. Does anyone know what is required for an item to qualify to be included in the Library of Congress? Does anyone know if there is a section for commercial record, tape and disc releases? If so is there any way to access these archives online? Can any of the materials be accessed online, and if so is there a fee?

  • U.S. citizen living abroad, marries minor,if they come stateside, status of minor spouse?

X U.S. citizen, In country with no minimum age for marriage.(At least 4 or 5 such do exist.) X is approached by Z who tells X there has been a sudden and violent change of regime. Because of ties to the old regime Z's entire family could be imprisoned or executed. (In many countries they do execute the entire bloodline down to newborns,) Assets frozen, all foreign embassies surrounded, most of the family under house arrest, Z has a younger sibling, Y a five year old whom was away when the soldiers came. The only way Y is going to get out of the country alive is as the spouse of a foreign citizen. Z has arranged for documents and an official to preform the marriage which comply with the laws of that country. Papers in hand X and Y board the plane that will take them out of the country. As they sit waiting to take off X sees Z surrounded and hauled away by a group of soldiers.

When X and Y land on U.S. soil they find that Y's home government has already requested the marriage be vacated and Y returned to someone claiming to be a distant cousin in spite of letters from Y's parents and both sets of grandparents placing Y's life in X's care. Finally there are petitions from several other countries in the region supporting the home country's demands that Y be put on the next plane back as soon as the marriage could be declared invalid. Realizing that most of the world doesn't give a damn about what actually happens to Y so long as the U.S. is made out the villain and if they vacate the marriage they have no justification for not sending Y back to the so called cousin. ala Ellion Gonzales.ala Ellion Gonzales.

  • Does anyone have an answer for this?

I have always felt that mans intelligence and rational thinking were this planet's best hope for survival. Why is it that after reading this section with it's name calling, lack of factual discussion and sycophantic worship of political figures who are little more than spokes models for the real powers within the ir respective parties, (who are all to shrewd to expose themselves to public scrutiny) even an agnostic such as myself, feels the need for a long hot shower then to get down on my knees and beg, "Dear God PLEASE,let me be wrong!"

  • Are there ways to effectively block or reflect gamma rays?

Are there materials that can be used to effectively block and reflect gamma rays? I have heard that such rays pass through things that block other forms of radiation with more devastating effect. If this is true is there any material or combination that can be used as shielding material?

  • For years there have been reports Intel CPU's have built in access at government request, True or False?

This idea really bothers me because if true and DOD and DOJ can do it even if they have to have a manual any computer literate 6th grader should be able to play havoc with any system so equipt.
