I have played the keyboard (mainly Scottish music, NOT childish little pop songs) and piano for 12 years, and I am 18 now. Find my music (and some Internet comedy) at http://www.youtube.com/ScotsmanRS - add me as a friend and speak to me! It's fun! Interests include technology, languages, and some light philosophical stuff. To me, critical thinking is incredibly important - everyone should think critically about everything. Don't just accept something because someone told you or you read it. Evaluate it, think about it.

  • Klasse gespielt - What does this German phrase mean?

A German left a comment on my latest YouTube video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBIByQZWhjs - saying "Klasse gespielt" - what does this mean? Is it a positive or negative comment?

I'll only accept answers from someone who studies German or a German native - any monkey can use an online translator (and anyone with half a brain should realise that this doesn't work well).

  • ¿Es esta oración correcta?

I have recently started learning Spanish, and I want to know if the following sentence is grammatically correct, and whether the punctuation is correct or not:

Auque no crea que soy muy guapo, ¡me gusta creer que soy algo inteligente!

If it isn't correct, can I change "auque" to something else so I can use the subjunctive on "creer"?

    Gracias.

  • «J'essaye» / «J'essaie»?

  • AVCHD file format compatibility

I'm planning on buying a Sony HD hard disk drive camcorder which will record AVCHD videos. However, I've heard that AVCHD can be a little tricky to work with - is it possible to import them to Windows Vista Movie Maker to do some simple editing? Is it then also possible to downscale the videos so I can make lower quality copies for posting on the Internet?

I'd prefer free solutions, but if you feel it is absolutely essential, I could also buy some software. Thanks.

  • Transferring iPod Touch to new laptop - what will I lose?

I don't mind about the music and the podcasts - I have them sorted out on the new laptop. However, will I lose things like my contacts, my notes, my Safari bookmarks, etc.? If so, how can I avoid losing these things? Thanks.

  • From where do I have to accept cookies to log in to Yahoo!?

I am using Firefox 3 and want to block all cookies and just put in exceptions for sites I want cookies for. However, I can't get into my Yahoo! account with these settings. I have tried allowing:

    yahoo.com

    mail.yahoo.com

    login.yahoo.com

but even when they are all allowed, Yahoo! just continually asks me for my password until I give up and allow all first party cookies.

Can anyone suggest what I have to allow to get it to work with all other cookies disabled?

  • Should I use Cat 6 or Cat 5e?

I have gigabit LAN, and want good performance for media streaming in my home. I have to put about 20m of cable down to connect the media server to the router. I have 20m of Cat 5e, but would there be any advantages of buying Cat 6 instead?

  • How do I install TOR on Ubuntu?

I am a power user with Windows, but now, in true geek style, I'm venturing towards Linux. So, I've installed the latest Ubuntu on my old laptop.

Now here's the problem - I'm absolutely lost. How can I install TOR on Ubuntu? Could you walk me through it, from what to download up to the point where TOR is installed with the TOR button in Firefox? Thanks.

  • What free software can I use for pre-OS defragging?

Hi, I've been having a bit of trouble with my defrags: Piriform Defraggler tells me that I have about 37.5GB of fragmented data, mainly "C:\System Volume Information", and it just won't defrag.

Would anyone be able to suggest some freeware that I can boot into to defrag before the OS loads? Thanks.

  • Batch file to make a directory with the name as the current date?

Simple question, how can I get a DOS batch file to make a new directory with the name of this new directory as the current date (or even current date/time). I'm thinking something to do with mkdir and date, but i don't know the syntax exactly. Thanks.

  • File copy script over the network?

I want to make a simple script to copy a folder from my laptop to my home server whenever I run the script (from the laptop). I was going to just use a batch file, but the DOS box informs me that it can't work with addresses like "\\server".

So, let's say, for example, I want to copy "C:\Folder" to "\\Server\Folder" upon running this script. What's the simplest way for me to do this? Thanks.

  • Practical benefits of overclocking?

I am a tech geek, so no need to give me any baby talk about overclocking. My question is, however, what practical difference do you get from those extra 5 or 10 Hz on the FSB?

I know that with the multiplier you end up with somewhere around 100Hz increase on the processor, but with the speed of processors today, would you say that I'm really not going to notice an extra hundred hertz? (I'm not doing any gaming, I'm talking more about boot time, time for the operating system to do basic tasks etc.)

  • Free hard disk imaging software?

Does anyone know of any good freeware for taking an image of an entire hard disk on which Windows is running (although it wouldn't bother me if I had to go into DOS first)? I need to make an image to back up my disk, and also be able to restore this image later.
