Will flossing make my teeth loose?
I have done enough research to understand that even if I have been brushing, the lack of flossing has caused some early signs of periodontal disease in my gums and some bone (tooth) loss has occurred over the years.
However, after not flossing for a long time (or consistently) i finally started making it a legitimate routine the last dozen days or so. BUT ... now I have noticed my teeth (essentially a full row of 4 or five of them) feel a bit loose to the touch with my tongue and I can just barely wiggle them. Obviously I don't want to push them and test them or anything, but is this normal? Is it because my gums just need to adjust to the flossing ... or should I be seriously concerned?
Thank you!
2 AnswersDental7 years agoAm I taxed on income I have earned or Received?
Long story short, a former employer gave me a w2 that had income reported which looked higher than what I earned (I left the job as of January 31st in 2013, so I could tell). He claimed I am also being taxed on the income I earned in the last 2 weeks of December, since I didn't receive that check until January.
First off, if what he is saying is true, then I would have received the "benefit" in 2013's taxes of 2012 (having that income with less reported, and now taxed on it in 2014's taxes).
However, I always though from my accounting courses that you report income in the period it was earned. Therefore, shouldn't I have had any wages earned in 2012 be reported in 2012 ... and any in 2013 be reported for 2013?
Just trying to be sure I know how this works (as it might kick me into a higher tax bracket if I have an addition two weeks included in my earnings).
2 AnswersUnited States7 years agoWhat is the statistical significance of these probabilities?
I feel like I'm overthinking this...I was able to take calculated odds and find out the probability of a given number of results happening for a specific scenario. More specifically, I even know the percentage chance that the best participant will win at 16% versus the participant with the lowest chances at just over 0.60%.
The question I have is how do I apply some sort of modifier to these percentages so I can smooth out the risk. (It's for a class assignment). So if one student wanted to gamble and "buy" a chance, how could I inflate the price of his ticket to cost more if he selected the outcome with a 12% chance versus the individual who is selecting the outcome with a 0.60% chance?
I want them to have (essentially) even risk, and it wouldn't be fair to charge an equal price for both the lowest odds as the one with the highest odds.
Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoCan I open a savings account for my siblings?
I have a few siblings who are all in their 20's (just like me). I have been fortunate enough to understand numbers and money. However, while my siblings are all somewhat successful, none of them have thought about their futures.
I want to open savings accounts essentially for them so that someday (maybe a decade or a few) I can have a solid amount of cash built up for them in their names whether it be for a rainy day fund or possibly for when their children go to college? Basically just something that is flexible but that earns more than .025% like most banks these days.
I'd be fine with different options, but I also want to be able to contribute small amounts (maybe 100 per month) so CD's might be out of it?
Any ideas?
6 AnswersPersonal Finance8 years agoCan I run for local government for just one year?
I am planning to go off to graduate school in about 18 months or so (Fall of 2014). But I have essentially a year to become involved and give back. Is there a local government position that I could try to run for or serve on for essentially just one year? It doesn't have to be like a mayor-type position (or something big like that), just something I can give back on.
1 AnswerCivic Participation8 years agoHow can I lookup an address in Oxford, England?
My girlfriend is heading to England in a week for a trip and is staying with friends of hers. I know their names, but not where they live.
I'd love to send a letter to her so that it gets there when she does, but I only know their names and not their address. How can I look it up?
Thanks!
2 AnswersOther - United Kingdom8 years agoWhere can I find a website to lookup a traffic ticket from years ago?
There was a database where I could look up a ticket from Ohio that I got like 6 years ago. It referenced the ticket, the amount, the day, etc.
I need to have that same information for a traffic ticket I got (speeding) in new york state about 3 years ago. Obviously I don't have the ticket information ... that's what I am looking for. Is there a way I could find out the date, fine, etc. online like for Ohio?
1 AnswerLaw Enforcement & Police8 years agoHow much do personal trainers get charged by a gym to use the facility?
A friend (or a contact I should say) has a family gym and they want to add a few other friends of mine as personal trainers. I heard the deal was the Gym would charge the trainers a flat rate of like $5.00 per client per hour to use the gym's facilities. Is it normal for those guys to get paid by the gym as well? Or are they independent contractors who make their money off of the clients they train? The Gym owners (my friend's parents) had also agreed that the few guys who would be personal training could use the gym for free as well ... but it just doesn't seem like a good deal if they can't bring in any clients right off of the bat.
How does this typically work?
1 AnswerMen's Health9 years agoWhen will I find out about acceptance to grad school?
I applied to a few different business (finance) PhD programs. Is there any easy way to know when the decision(s) will be made? I have heard from two or three of the schools to be on the lookout "near the end of february / beginning of march" but one of the schools I applied to didn't even have a deadline until May 1st.
Obviously I am just eager, but is there any resource out there which can tell me when schools TYPICALLY send out their decision to admit, waitlist, deny, etc?
Like I said ... just getting anxious after a year long process to study, apply, and now wait!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoShould I take the standard milage rate or should I deduct actual expenses due to repairs?
It is the first year I used my car for the business so I am doing everything the right way to claim it on taxes. However, can I take the standard milage rate and still include just over $1,300 I spent on a combined new tires, new alternator and battery, and a few other items? OR, do I have to go through the actual expenses process?
Just not sure because it's the first year I added my car into the business.
3 AnswersUnited States9 years agoCan I write off trips to the gym if I am a personal trainer?
If I go directly to the gym from my house and then back to my home then I want to know if I can write this off? I am a (part time) certified trainer and also have co-authored a few e-books on coaching, fitness, and nutrition.
Since I am going to declare my car expenses and mileage on the trips that are purely business related, can I also declare the trips I took to the gym? (It would be roughly 5 trips per week at 48 to 50 weeks ... that's looking like 250 trips. Then factor in about a mile each way and you have 500 miles. At $0.51 cents per mile I would be taking the standard rate of $255.00 just on trips to the gym!)
Is this correct in thought or am I missing something?
4 AnswersUnited States9 years agoCan I get in trouble for quitting after training?
I am in the process of waiting to hear if I get into a graduate program or not. I applied for a few and should find out my future in the next few weeks. However, I also applied to a great manager training program with a company and have just been offered a position.
I am worried that if I accept now and find out in a few months that I am into grad school (by April or so) that the company could have some sort of legal ramifications against me?
I would feel bad about misleading them but I am afraid if I tell them there is a chance I would have to quit after 6 months that they would pull the offer. Plus, there is no guarantee that I am into school and because the acceptance rates are so low for the phd program I want, I could actually see myself in this training program and with this company for another few years at least ... that is if I don't get in.
Like I said ... I don't want to be dishonest and take advantage of them, but if I tell them the circumstances and they pull the offer then I am not only out of a job, but I might be out of luck entirely because I will be unemployed until September when the program starts (if not longer because I might not get into the program at all!).
3 AnswersLaw & Legal9 years agoDid I overpay for car repairs?
Long story short: I traveled close to 200 miles for Christmas to see my family, and on the return trip my battery light came on. I almost made it the remaining 20 or so miles home before the car died. Then I had it towed to the nearest mechanic, just around the corner of my house.
At first I thought it was an alternator because that's what it sounded like and a friend (who is pretty good but no expert with cars) thought so as well. However, the mechanic assured me that it was only the battery and he also replaced a belt. For the battery, belt, $45 tow, and labor it cost me about $490.00. He also told me the alternator was fine.
I started the car today to come to work and the battery light is on again. After asking a former mechanic, he says it's the alternator.
My questions:
Is it really the alternator?
If so, should I trust the mechanic I just took it to if they thought it wasn't?
Third, was I overcharged? My friend (former mechanic) who is a coworker thinks I overpaid by a lot.
Thanks!
8 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoCan I be fired for a dentist appointment?
My employer was told by me two weeks ago that I had to go get a root canal in a few days *(Tuesday). Not only did I remind him by dropping a note in the safe with my paperwork, but had him initial my request so he remembered that he "ok'd" it.
He just made the schedule for the upcoming week this morning and scheduled me Tuesday. I brought it to his attention and he said "too bad - I don't have to give you off any time."
I haven't missed a single day of work. Not once. I also came in when he fired two other employees and (I am not making this up) I didn't have a day off from October 25th until November 30th because we were understaffed. If I cancel my Dentist appointment at this point it's past the cancellation and I will need to pay a pretty large fee.
My question is because I haven't missed, can I skip work and then just present the dentist appointment paperwork as a medical excuse? I haven't missed a single day and would rather "switch" the schedule with someone else so that I don't put anyone else in a bad position. But I basically want to know my options so I can leverage that and tell my employer "please either allow me to switch shifts with someone, or I will call off anyways and you can't retaliate because it would be illegal."
Thoughts on my predicament?
6 AnswersLaw & Legal9 years agoJust got a cavity filled, should there be a ridge there?
I just got a cavity filled today on the surface of my tooth. The problem (if it's a problem) is that the filling isn't exactly lined up with the rest of the tooth and there is a little bit of a raised edge where the tooth is slightly higher.
Should this just balance itself out? Should I continue "tamping" down on my tooth until it's flat? Should I go back and check it out? Again - it's nothing major, but it is a little annoying. However, that might just be because I just got back from the dentist a few hours ago and it hurts (it was a deep cavity).
2 AnswersDental10 years agoWhat Finance PHD program(s) should I be looking at?
I have a 700 GMAT and already have an MBA from an accredited university. I realize in order to be considered for top tier programs I would need to retake the GMAT (and I still have a lot of time to do so). However, with my current GMAT of 700, I was wondering what types of programs I should be looking into?
Where ever you look online for lists and rankings they all give you different ones. I want to go to a program that trains me for a career at a research university.
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)10 years agoHow can I get payment from someone online who owes me money?
I did some work writing for an individual and helping him build his website. He has told me multiple times he will pay me soon after he originally told me he would pay me at the end of the month. His original payment date was supposed to be July 31st.It is not almost September. I can prove through email conversations that I did the work and he agreed to pay, but do I have any legal options to get my funds? The amount he owes me is a little under $400.00.
3 AnswersOther - Business & Finance10 years agoCan I be on my parent's insurance?
I was on my parent's insurance. I graduated college and am not enrolled this academic year. However, I am already all but officially accepted into a graduate program in the fall of 2012. Do I have to wait until then? Is there any way I can get back on their insurance now? Or do I have to wait to have a crown put in on my one tooth until then?
I figure I could tell the insurance company "It's only going to be this much now, but if you make me wait then it could cost this much instead."
Any thoughts?
PS. I am only 23 and I know I can be on it until I am 26 I believe. So, as long as I get back into school (which isn't guaranteed but like I said I was already told I am in by the dean of the college), then it's fine. But do i have to wait a full year to be treated?
