Ironic? Fences and walls around the Capitol...?
while stopping border walls and fencing? Thought they didn't work, were inhumane, etc. Guess we'll see if this gets me kicked off yahoo!answers.
3 AnswersPolitics2 months agoAre there any organizations that expose "American" companies that secretly outsource jobs?
Just curious. I worked over a dozen years for a company that was recently bought out and eliminated many positions including mine (of course after giving step-by-step instructions for the various tasks I performed so others could "help") so they could outsource them to be performed cheaper overseas (India)...many of my remaining (now former) co-workers tell me they have been asked to do the same. Just wondering if there is an organization that exposes this as I'm sure the many advertisers that are the income source for this company may want to know about this.

...do they not also provide the context to bring us together?
2 AnswersCivic Participation10 months agoWhat's the difference between a journalist and a blogger these days?
Just scrolling through Yahoo! stories this morning. Most seem to be pointing out something they see as the president s apparent mistake or something someone else did wrong in their eyes. In the last week I can think of maybe two stories that I read where I didn't sense an agenda behind the story. If you are just going to cherrypick which "stats" you want to use and/or find people to "interview" that agree with your pre-conceived notions to write your story around, is there a difference between a blogger (writing their opinion) and a journalist these days?

13 AnswersElections11 months agoAnyone else confused by the 5k per week story while scrolling through Yahoo! today?
I thought it was going to be a Democratic "stimulus" proposal. Turns out it was for Publishers Clearing House....although our current House leaders have the same thoughts on how an economy works.
1 AnswerPolitics11 months agoShould someone expect 99 other people to sacrifice their quality of life for their sake?
My spin question for today. If the COVID-19 mortality rate is 1% (From what I've seen, the best guesses range from .3% to 3%? Please correct me if wrong.) and even assuming that number is accurate as we do not/cannot know the number of people infected but asymptomatic and we are making our best assumption on the rate, would it be fair to expect 99% of the population to sacrifice so greatly so the extra 1% may live? And even more harshly, since it seems the elderly are most at risk, live how much longer? Under what scenario is it "fair," to expect 99 strangers to be exposed to economic hardship, social pressures, and have their lives turned upside down for another? Please respond with your insults now...
6 AnswersPolitics11 months agoI keep hearing from all our leaders they are driven by the data, science, etc. Are they not supposed to be driven by the Constitution?
Doesn't matter which side you support politically. Are we not all guilty of the erosion of our political rights? When someone in government takes action we support, they are being "strong," But when they do something we are against they are a "fascist" or "tyrant." If decisions on all levels are being made singly by executive order without input from the people or (at least) legislative bodies, how different are we in the U.S. (guess I also heard the Canadian Prime Minister basically outlawed firearms by himself this morning) from China, North Korea, etc.?
9 AnswersPolitics12 months agoIs anybody worried about the erosion of their Constitutional rights in the U.S. or government overreach elsewhere from the Covid "crisis?"?
Just quickly looking at what has happened...
Right to assemble...greatly restricted
Right to protest...?
Run and maintain a business?
Think and make decisions for oneself?
Etc, etc. etc.
I don't care which party you support, from the president, to governors, to mayors, to even non-elected bureaucrats, it sure seems like these people have all been able to somehow grab control and restrict our rights. Haven't heard anything from the ACLU or other rights groups or even courts questioning this overreach. What would our founding fathers think of the current situation?
10 AnswersPolitics12 months agoHasn't people's responses to this current health crisis cut right to the core of each party's political philosophy?
Republican... the Constitution grants people rights that can't be altered by government leaders for any circumstance...even if people's rights/actions may cause peril to others?
Democrat... for the public good, especially in time of emergency, government leaders can take actions needed to protect the public even if it means restrictions to people's rights?
Politics12 months agoIs there such a thing as "under"employment insurance?
Based on the current COVID-19 situation, our employer is cutting the hours of full-time staff (those still employed) from 40 to 32 hours per week. Just wondering if there was any government program that helps with the difference in pay for that situation?
4 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 year agoProbably a politically incorrect question...How many more people in the U.S., and the world, are dying because of Co-vid 19 than normal day?
I remember in high school (mid '80s) reading that 41k people died daily around the world just because of hunger/starvation. I was curious about the daily death rate before Co-vid 19 and read 7452 people died daily in the U.S. in 2018. How many people are dying daily because of Co-vid 19 (or would be estimated to if society left unchecked)? How many would have passed regardless (some other issue that would have been part of the daily 7452)? With the shelter in place, people driving less, people not working so fewer workplace accidents, etc., any estimates on the death rate difference as a result? Sorry for anyone that has lost someone to the virus, my mind just wonders things :(
