I've been a hobby breeder of Cockatiels, Green Cheek Conures, Japanese Quail and Zebra Finches since 2001. I specialize in Cockatiels and Green cheeks with forays into zebra finches and japanese quail. You can find my aviary page at: http://featherdragon3.tripod.com and my 'personality' page (kindly created by wingman) at: http://webpages.charter.net/rjsworld/birdgroup/cfd.htm I've been a member of the Parrot Club of Manitoba since 2001. I regularly attend club displays where we are dedicated to educating the puplic about parrots, their care and the different species. Not only am I a breeder but I'm an artist ^.^ ! I currently run a small studio called Domnijoe Pets and Art. I specialize in watercolor, acrylic, pen, ink and scratchboard and I sketch mainly fantasy, animal portraits and dragon related themes. I currently live with a ' zoo' that include 7 rats, 3 guinea pigs, 12 birds, 2 cats, Numerous fish and several clutches that arrive throughout the year.

  • Controling Pain in baby Green Cheek Conure with broken Leg?

Before anyone comments - Yes I know. BRING IT TO THE VET. Problem is, We have **NO** emergency vets that deal with birds where I live. I have to wait 8 and a half hours until my regular vet opens. It's so bad that experienced bird breeders know more than the dog and cat vets at the emergency hospital (I kid you not!). They refuse to treat birds as a result.

My nine week old Green cheek conure is in pain and I tried bandaging up the injury as best I could. Chick got attacked by one of my rats in a freak accident while learning to fly. The baby conure is in the hospital cage/brooder being hand fed occasional formula to keep fluids and strength up. What can I offer to control pain? I have low dose aspirin and extra strength Ibuprofin. I'd love to reduce swelling, too, if possible. I was stuck in the hospital with celulitis for a month so I can imagine how much worse the conure must be feeling :-(

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
