I need to know if the wiper fluid dispensing automatically engaged the windshield wiper in cars as early as the 1960's? I read a story about a teenage stunt involving the wiper fluid dispenser and every time the fluid was squirted out, the wiper would sweep across the windshield. I know that happens in today's vehicles, but did it back in the 60's?

I always thought that it might have been popular during WWII because of the reference to daddy being gone. However, I don't know that for sure.
