This little guy was very friendly. I meet him while camping near Yosemite, Ca.

He/she was alone, so is probably not a flock bird. He was on the small side. Just a little bigger than a sparrow. Longer legs and tail, but more slender than a sparrow.

I am very curious as to what species he or she is.

  • Effexor withdrawal..... how long?

I have recently been switched from Effexor XR (300mg qd) to Prozac. I was on the Effexor for about 5 years and have been treated for major depression for over 10 years. I was weaned off the Effexor over a 4 week period. I have now been on straight Prozac (20mg qd) for just over one week. My withdrawal symptoms have decreased markedly (first 3 weeks were shear HELL), but still feel like I am on a roller coaster. Symptoms range from anxiety bordering on panic, dark almost suicidal depression and some wonderful bursts of energy. I still get occasion "brain shivers", but not as bad. How much longer can I expect this to continue?

I have a f/u with my provider in 2 weeks, but I am so sick and tired of feeling this way.

  • Anyone suggest a good site for information on hawks?

Last year we had a pair of young hawks take up residence in a tree behind our house. They dissapeared in early fall. I would like figure out what type of hawks they are and if they might return.

We really enjoyed having them around, even if I did have to shell out some money to enclose my fids outside play area.

  • Any one recommend a safe plant for my cockatoo to destroy?

Can anyone recommend a plant that is safe, fast growing and inexpensive for my U2 to destroy/eat?

My U2 has an absolute fetish for destroying/eating larger plants. She loves rose bushes and bamboo (chemical free), but even rotating plants, I just can't keep up. I have an outdoor play area for them. It is semi-enclosed for protection from the hawks that nest 2 houses down. They are never outside without close supervision. She has pretty much denuded the rose bush and bamboo in her area and keeps escaping her play area to get to the other rose bushes. I am getting tired of chasing her all the time.

I have tried numerous behavior modification tricks including time-outs and even the dreaded squirtbottle. Nothing has worked, she has such a fixation on it! So I am going to try to keep her supplied with potted safe plants I can rotate. But I need something that grows fast and is cheap. The small plants like marigolds and petunias don't interest her. Any recommendations would be welcome

  • Where can I buy 10 or 12 ga avian wire galvanized after welding?

I am trying to find a reputable source, either local or on-line, to buy 10 or 12 gauge avian wire or wire mesh that has been galvanized after weilding.

I am upgrading my macaw and U2's outdoor aviary (on a tight budget) It is important that the wire be galvanized AFTER the wielding process. Birds are very sensitive to zinc and I need to limit thier exposure to it.
