  • Can diabetes cause emotional ups and downs?

Recently I heard of somebody who has done something really quite out of character, and this person has at the moment severe diabetes that has them not being able to work, on doctor's orders. I don't want to go into details but they basically have shut out all but a few people from their life, including their spouse. Could this be diabetes or depression or something else?

  • A song about Edith Piaf - chocolate cigarettes - this is driving me crazy?

Back in the early 90's there was a song put out by I think a Canadian artist that was a tribute to Edith Piaf. The lyrics I remember started with "Edith Piaf, she was the little sparrow,.." and it has "chocolate cigarettes" in it. This is NOT the song by Rufus Wainwright, it's a some about Edith Piaf the singer and how vulnerable she was. Very touching and I had hoped to learn it on the guitar and realized I lost where I had written the lyrics and all the other information down. Anyone out here know? I was thinking it was the McGarrigle sisters but looking at their discography I didn't recognize it.

  • Carl Sagan's house in Ithaca - who owns it now?

Carl Sagan, who died in 1996, had a curious house in Ithaca. It is concrete and just has the number 900 on a bunker style front door, but inside apparently it was (is?) amazing. I was there today with someone who lived in Ithaca 15 years ago when Carl Sagan was still alive and teaching at Cornell. He said it looks run down and that a patio type thing with a flying pegasus horse structure is gone.

So - who owns this now, and, does any one have a link to something that shows pictures inside?

Personally I think this should be turned into a museum dedicated to him and to science, but I have no idea who owns it and if they ever visit it - it really is looking a bit overgrown these days.

  • Canadian tv question - there was a children's show in the early 90's called something like Kids Can Rock

It had 4 guys in glittery wigs that were different colours (one was silver, another blue..) and besides the singing every episode had a lesson of sorts. The guys were a kid's rock band that sang about stuff preschoolers could relate to. My daughter loved that show (she's now 15) and we were wondering if anyone knows the real name and if I could find a episode to watch for old time's sake somewhere.

  • Bushnell Binoculars, 11-1025 model that takes photos but how to download them to the PC?

I have the CD, I have also downloaded the driver from the Bushnell web site. I have Windows XP. This is really frustrating - I have set up these binoculars to link to my PC but all it allows me to do is do streaming video. Fun, but I have taken photos that for the life of me I can't download. Bushnell was no help (they don't answer). Anybody else here have these binoculars and have figured it out?

  • Ford Escort 1995 - drives like a snail in a trance in cooler weather?

When the weather is cool, my Escort takes about 5 minutes before it's warm enough somewhere to let me press on the gas and actually have it go faster than 30 km an hour. I have a slight radiator leak that only shows up in cold weather (I understand the radiator is going) and wonder if that's related or if it is something totally else. I did have a $300 sensor replaced that cured an engine light I was getting, but it did nothing about this. Any ideas?

  • Canadian title insurance question: I bought an older house, and the basement floods every spring.?

The reason why is there is a big parking lot beside me that the snow sometimes gets plowed up on the side facing our house, and the slope of the land goes towards my house. This was not disclosed in any of the purchase documents, nor during the house inspection. When I complained to the owner of the big parking lot they said, "oh yes, that's a problem, there was a big flood once, every one knows about it...better get your foundation fixed." Nice.

Can I make a claim on title insurance since I feel this information was deliberately withheld? Everyone may have known but I moved in from out of town.

When answering, please remember this is a Canadian law question.

  • Power Generator for travel trailer - alternative energy kinds like biodiesel or hydrogen or solar?

We have a 27' older travel trailer we've parked in the woods. There is no water, no power, no electricity. We'd like to turn this old dinosaur into an experiment in off-the grid cottage (start off with trailer and build around it). One thing is a power generator. Does anyone know if biodiesel (i.e. vegetable oil) portable generators exist or if perhaps hydrogen generators? This would be a back up to a solar panel hooked up to the trailer battery. Also looking into how to build a well and septic system. Links to books or examples of websites or other resources would be nice. Piece of land we have is in Quebec. P.S. not sure which category to put this in, there's nothing on alternative energy.

  • In Ayurvedic body types, how does a vata-pita person balance kasha?

Since quitting smoking my naturally vata body (thin, hard to gain) has become more kasha in that I gain weight and yet I exercise and don't overeat (avoid fast food). Is there a kasha balancing thing a vata person can do to go back to their natural self? I'm wondering whether alcalinity has something to do with it since nicotine changes the alcaline/acid balance but really, I'm only guessing. All I know is, I used to have a hard time gaining weight and now I eat the same, exercise, and still am gaining. It makes no sense.
