I've got a cake recipe and one of the ingredients is skimmed milk. I don't drink very much and don't buy it because it's a waste to throw half of it away. I've got some oatly and some rice dream in the cupboard though. Are they any good in cake recipes? I've not cooked with them before.

I know this is strange. I like to have themes in my reading throughout the year. I generally stumble on these accidentally. I'm currently reading something by an author called Thomas Zigal, so I thought why not go through the alphabet of author's surnames backwards?

I like crime, history, humour, horror. I don't like sci-fi or Mills & Boonish romance. If you can recommend any tricky letters (x, q) they'd also be appreciated.

Going from the UK - not fussed about travel arrangements. Looking for somewhere cheapish and relatively close with lots of things to see. Where would you go for five days (can be Europe or UK)?

I had a very heavy door fall on my finger on Sunday (two days ago). Anyway, it bled quite a lot when it happened, but finger injuries are a bit disgusting and I didn't look too closely. Anyway I took the plaster off today and I think that rather than bleeding at the bottom of the injury (near the knuckle), it was bleeding from the nail bed and I've dislodged the nail (it also feels less attached down one side, especially if I catch it while typing). Do I need to go to my GP about this?

I have quite bad pronation of my ankles (due to Marfan syndrome) and I'm waiting to see the podiatrist to get some prescription insoles made for my shoes. The waiting list is currently about 11 months long. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? I have some shop-bought inserts, but they don't work very well. Sometimes my ankles get really sore because of this. Recently I've started having problems with my hips as well and I'm sure the fact that I don't walk properly doesn't help.

I live with 16 other people and share a kitchen and fridges. Since a certain person moved in two months ago, things keep dissapearing from the fridge (a six pack of beer etc.). The other day someone nicked my cheese so I wrote a polite note not accusing anyone, asking whoever took it to replace it and ask before they took next time. There is now a note attached to my note saying "suck my balls, *****." While it would be satisfying to write "you'd have to grow a set first" in response, is there anything else I could do to move the problem toward some sort of resolution rather than coming down to this person's level? We don't know who it is (suspicion is based solely on the fact that this didn't happen before this person moved in) and therefore can't accuse them outright.

BTW, I don't like leaving notes as a rule, but it wasn't the first thing they took so someone had to do something.

Also, is it worth saying anything to our letting agent (even though he's a waste of space)?

I want screw-on feet for different occassions (going-out, everyday etc.), and burglar-proof cheese. What do you want that's unlikely to happen?

I've got a real problem with needles, but have been told I have a probable genetic condition that I really should get blood tested for. I was given the opportunity to scarper today before the phlebotomist could stick me. She got as far as cleaning my arm before I ran for it. Next time my mum is going to come with me, so escape won't be an option.

Are there any books that people can recommend or other tips for overcoming phobias?
