  • Calif. parents of teenage drivers- is there a section on DMV form (app. for drivers license) that requires disclosure of medications?

A friend has a 16 year old and is being berated by spouse for not signing the form. The issue seems to be around neglecting to disclose the teen's medications on the form. Since I don't have the form to look at, I'm hoping someone on here can tell me if this is a requirement on the DMV form. (This is not a form that can be obtained online, or I would have done so.)

  • If you've lived in Los Angeles and moved away to another city/state, what made you decide to move?

Curious as to the reasons people choose to leave Los Angeles:

To what city/state did you choose to move and why?

What made you decide to leave?

And, how long had you lived in Los Angeles and what ages of arrival or departure (if you care to share those.)

And finally, after moving away, did you feel "let down" at your new location after L.A., or were you happier after the move?

  • If you've lived in Los Angeles, does Nashville seem like a "small town" or still a vibrant city?

With L.A. obviously being a gigantic city, just wondering from those who've lived in both cities how different they feel. As in, if you're used to Los Angeles, will Nashville seem like a too small town, or is it an easy transition because the city of Nashville still feels like it has everything?

Anyone can answer the same form L.,A. to Austin, as well. Or Dallas?

Just looking for opinions based on experience.

  • Is it true that Los Angeles apartments only require one means of egress (i.e., front door)?

I thought there was a requirement of at least two, which is why there are window egress requirements...?

  • In Los Angeles, can a tenant block gated egress from a back exit?

A new tenant moved in and padlocked a gate in a common area. My unit has a back door off the kitchen, and I access the laundry room and trash cans from that door. Can he legally do this, or does this consititue violation of safety egress codes (fire, earthquake, emergency exit.)?

I've notified the landlord, who lives in another part of the state. She's told him twice to remove it, but he hasn't. Can anyone direct me to actual code information online? (I have looked, but I'm not finding much.)

Anyone know how expensive are the fines, if this is a violation?

  • Best book(s) on Glycemic Index re: Diabetes?

I am hoping to hear from those experienced with managing diabetes what, in your opinion, are the best books re: glycemic index/glycemic load and how to eat to manage diabetes. I am looking for something simple and comprehensive and written with asy-to-understand American measurements, references, common foods, etc. (I saw one pretty comprehensive one but appeared to be British-based and the foods/measaurements were a little too confusing for an elder parent.)

    Advice will be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Best diet for diabetes?

My father was recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes. There is so much conflicting information out there, I am wondering from those who have been dealing with this condition what is the best "diet" to keep it under control. Using the "glycemic index" as a guide going forward, what would be the bare bones necessities. I had heard giving up all sugar, including carbs was necessary. His newly appointed nutritionist doesn't say to get rid of carbs, but to get rid of fat. It's all so confusing, does anyone have a quick & dirty version to share of best, most effective, safest way to proceed? Is it a matter of making sure you combine carbs with protein, or just keeping within the low/mid-range glycmic index and avoiding the high index as much as possible. Thanks for any input.

  • What to get an executive for Christmas?

I'd love some advice on what to get a (male) executive, for Christmas. He's a great boss, and I'd like to get him something nice, as he always does for me. I just have no idea about "guy" gifts for those slightly-less personal relationships. He likes golf, but is probably golfed-out gift-wise by now. He works like a madman and travels a lot, but basically has what he needs. I'd love to get him something nice he can use, or just enjoy, but I have no clue, and deadline is approaching. Help?!?

  • What are some good gift suggestions for a woman turning 50?

I'm not sure this is the right category, but seemed the most appropriate from the list....

I have a longtime family friend who will be turning 50 next month. I'm not looking for a gag gift, but for something appropriate, memorable and with meaning (if that's possible). She's the "new face" of 50 -- a stunningly beautiful woman who looks easily 15 years younger than her actual age. Not a mom and not a grandmother -- a vibrant "young" woman who's about to have this horrible number attached to her.

Any ideas? I'm at a total loss.

    Thanks.

  • Who two new for The View?

Just for giggles, what two women would you choose to fill the co-host openings at The View? Star Jones' opening and the Meridith Vieira/Rosie O'Donnell position?

  • Preference of laptop (PC) - what to choose?

My company wants me to get a laptop. I don't care for laptops, primarily because they are so uncomfortable to work on. The wrist areas are so wide that's it's difficult to type from that "flush" position, whereas desktop keyboards tilt upwards. So, for a PC-based laptop, which makes/models have the shortest/most narrow wrist areas?

  • Which is the best "Free" online calendar system?

For a staff used to using Outlook with an Exchange server so as to allow easy meeting scheduling, viewing others'

availability for coordinating times, etc. -- is there anything comparable with regard to the free, online calendar systems? The company doesn't want to shell out for Outlook, but the majority of the staff is having fits at not having it. Is there anything that can save the day?

  • Time to Boycott China?

With China cruelly beating dogs to death (literally) as an ordered mass slaughter because they may or may not have rabies -- all because the owners are not being responsible in caring for the animals thereby allowing for the spread of the disease to humans -- I believe it's now time to boycott China in all things possible.

Harming animals for the sake of convenience is way beyond the realms of human decency. And to do this in such a cruel and barbaric way deserves a SEVERE backlash.

Okay, so that was more a statement from a soapbox than a question. So, do you agree?

  • Oblivious co-workers irritate with unnecessary noise?

Opinions on what to do please. Reactions welcomed too.

I have a couple of co-workers who are quite nice except for a potent flaw. They are constantly making unnecessary noise and are oblivious to that fact. They are constantly "clicking" retractible pens (like, a LOT) and it's making me a little crazy. They also tend to whistle and hum. Nobody else seems to notice it, but 30 clicks while walking the span of 10 feet (and in an open-office area, I might add). Some days it's okay, but not when concentration is required. I dont want to create a situation at work, but I may go nuts if it does not stop.
