  • Parents Claimed me as a dependent?

My parents were doing their tax return and claimed me as a dependent. I am 25 and a full time grad student with the 1098T. They cannot claim me right since I am 25? I thought it was 24 was the cutoff age.

So they e-filed tonight and the software online accepted my age. I assume the IRS will probably reject it later tonight or tomorrow automatically because of my age?

If not should they file an amended return to remove me to avoid any penalties?

  • Should take early retirement or what?

My dad's plant will be shutting down by mid next year because the company is selling this building. He has worked there over 20 years. The union has said they will make sure they have a full package before leaving to be covered. My next question is my dad is 58 should he take early retirement package if offered by the company or file unemployment and use the pension money? There was some talk of possibly moving employees also. Any hints or tips would be helpful since I'm not an expert in financial things.

  • Life Long Learning Credit?

My parents have usually got $2,000 from the credit. But this year it says only $695, Why the change? Did we do something wrong? The 1098T from the school is identical to the other years with the tuition and the amount paid by grants/loans so why the change in amount?

  • Life Long Learning Credit Question?

My parents were starting to file their taxes and got to the education credit part. I know that the file date for the credit doesn't start until the 14th. This year the credit is only giving back $495 compared to the $2000 we had been getting back. The 1098-T from the school is identical to the one from 2011 with the amount billed, etc.. So then why is it the amount is drastically different then last year's refund if my parents didn't really make more then 2011 also.

  • Visiting the White House?

I am planning a trip with a few friends this summer to DC. We want to visit the White House and take a tour. I know you have to go through your congressmen to get the tour. So how does this work if not all of us lives in the same district? They have me in charge of doing this, I guess because I have a Poly Sci minor from college.. lol But I am not sure of this problem. So if I am doing it will I be able to request for everyone?

    Thanks.

  • Should I file independent or have my parents claim me?

    Alright,

I am 24 and just finished college last year I have the 1098-T from the school. Would I get more out of the credit filing by my self or having my parents claim it with me as a dependent. Which would also make more sense for me also to get the most back? I made about $8,000 last year myself. Not too sure since this would be the last year my parents can claim me.

  • Age for dependents in college?

I just turned 24 last year and 2012 was my last year in college so can my parents still claim me as a dependent or not? What is the age cutoff for college students?

    Thanks.

  • ADA act question at work..?

My mom works at a school for a few hours a day watching kids at recess and lunch. Anyways, she was on an antibiotic and started having weakness in her leg which was a side effect from it and almost fell at work. She stopped the medicine which her doctor told her, and recommend she use a cane to help her until the side effects go away.

So anyways the school said it will not let her use the cane while at work? I told her it she was allowed to based on the ADA act. Who's right here? Can her employer prevent her from using it?

  • Credit report problem.. Need some advice.?

    Alright,

I had checked my Trans Union FICO score on my Walmart credit card account and noticed it had dropped... a lot.. Curious, I bought my 3 credit reports, because I had already got the free ones for the year back in Jan as my yearly check.

Anyways I see there is a judgement on my credit reports on all 3. This is from my my parents. They were taken to court in March from a old credit card they defaulted on in 2008. Since then they have settled it.

My dad and I have the same name, with different middle names. So I am not Jr, or the II.. Ect

I am in my mid 20s out of college with a really good job. I have a few credit cards and my student loans I'm paying on so I have a really good credit score and report. Since I am looking into buying a new car soon I want to take care of this because it knocked almost 100 points off.

Should I contact the creditor about this or dispute it first with the credit companies? If so what proof should I get and is there any legal action I can take against the creditor, because this is illegal to do.

    Thanks.

  • Need some baseball stats help.?

I am doing some research and I need to find home runs per stadium and per month. Another possibility is just home runs for each home team per month. I can find some of that under ESPN under splits, but not together. I checked some other baseball reference sites also. Any ideas where I can find this?

    Thanks

  • Getting Contact Lenses for the First Time?

Alright I need the pros and cons from those that wear contacts. I am thinking about getting them the next time. I am in my mid 20s and have been wearing glasses since 4th grade and just thinking about a change. I have looked at websites but they just give you general tips and what to do and not to do.

So I want to ask those that wear them to give me contact lenses 101run through and their own pro's and con's so I won't waste money for the exam and not like them.

    Thanks

  • Student loan/ financial aid question?

Alright as I was looking at my credit report.. I sadly saw all my government student loans which gratefully don't add up to much. Anyways I saw some from Direct Loans and National Education Services which say they have been closed and sold before I even start paying on them. So my question is when I graduate (next Spring) what happens to those loans? Who has them? All I see is the rest of my loans from the past 4 semesters. I know my school changed the loan company so not quite sure if that had anything to do with it.

Also what happens after I graduate? Do I get one big bill to pay off the gov loans or what happens? What also happens if I go to grad school? Just trying to get these questions out of the way.

    Thanks

  • Disputing something on credit report...?

I have disputed a old medical bill in collections from when I was on my parents account and some got in my name without me knowing. It is only a little over $100.00 but has been on my credit report for a few years.. I disputed it with 1 of the 3 and had it removed last year. Now I am doing it with the other 2 credit reports. I am away from home right now at school and all of a sudden after non contact for years from this collector called my house and started harassing my mom about the "bill." They have never contacted me before about it and I didn't even know until I checked my credit report. What should I do because this is the first time they ever contacted me and happens to be when I am in the middle of disputing it.

  • Wind up clock problem....?

My grandpa gave me his old antique Montgomery Ward 31 day wind up clock. Since trying to put it up in my home it will not work. The running joke is that it was on their wall so long it won't work on my wall. It is fully wound up and cannot turn the key anymore. So is it a mechanism problem or a pendulum problem. It will work for about 3-4 minutes before the pendulum stops. It still chimes when ever I move the hands. Is it something I can fix or should I get it looked at by a pro. Don't want to waste money if it's just something I can move with the pendulum. Thanks

  • Service of Process in IL?

I use to be a process server in the state of IL but I quit had to quit 2.5 years ago to leave for school and I haven't kept up on any new laws. Anyways by girlfriend's parents were "served" today and naturally she called me first thing they found out. Except this process server left the summons on the back door early this morning before they had even gotten up. I know the company I worked for said we could never do that without being face to face with a person in the house. Now I may think this is illegal but like I said unless any new rules or laws state that in IL, this case can be dismissed. With out being able to see the actual "summons" they may not even be real and may just be a scare tactic by the creditor which according to my GF's parents are in contact with to settle now that they are back working. So my question is can you now be served by just leaving papers on the door step?
