I have tried limewire but I can't find these anywhere pls help.

Whenever I try to download a video and I go to play it through windows media player it tells me that I don't have a compatable codec that the file is using, so it doesn't play. 1 what the heck is a codec and what are the better files to down load I currently have vista is that the problem?

I am trying to put an animated gif onto my 360 page and when I tried it wouldn't let me do it because it said that I can only put jpeg files up, I have seen other pages that had them what am I doing wrong please help
